Snooker
Snooker (pronounced , ) is a cue sport played on a rectangular Billiard table#Snooker and English billiards tables, billiards table covered with a green cloth called baize, with six Billiard table#Pockets 2, pockets: one at each corner and one in the middle of each long side. Amine Amiri
Amine Amiri (born 30 March 1994) is a former professional Moroccan snooker player. Career Amiri played on the World Snooker Tour for the first time in 2019–20, after winning a gold medal in the African Games. His first match as a professional came in the 2019 English Open where in the first round he lost 4–0 to Barry Hawkins. Barring a second round exit in the 2020 Gibraltar Open, he exited in the first round of every tournament he entered over his two-year tour card. He also drew Judd Trump twice during his debut season, being whitewasted in both instances. John Barrie (snooker Player)
John Barrie (30 June 1924 – 20 April 1996) was one of the leading professional billiards and snooker players from the mid-1940s. His real name was William Barrie Smith. He won the 1950 UK Professional Billiards Championship defeating Kingsley Kennerley 9046–5069 in the final. He was born in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire where his family ran The White Lion Hotel. In his later career Barrie coached many of England's leading players including Chateriss's Albert ' Snowy' Salisbury and the future 1984 World Professional Billiards Champion Mark Wildman of Peterborough. Roger Bales
Roger Bales (born 15 August 1948) is an English former professional snooker player. Career Born in Birmingham on 15 August 1948, Bales first played competitive snooker in 1974, playing in that year's Pontin's Spring Open, a pro-am event, where he lost his first match 0–4 to Mario Berni. In the 1978 edition of that event, he whitewashed Cliff Wilson 4–0, but was defeated in the next round 3–4 by Dennis Taylor. Partnering with Clive Everton, Bales won the national pairs snooker championship in 1977. He won the Pontins Autumn Open in 1983. Having gained experience in the amateur game, Bales turned professional in 1984, aged 35. At the International Open, his first professional tournament, he defeated Dessie Sheehan, Tommy Murphy, and Mick Fisher to reach the last 48, where he led Dean Reynolds 4–2 but could not prevent Reynolds from coming back to beat him 4–5. Sam Baird
Sam Baird (born 17 June 1988) is an English former professional snooker player. He first entered the professional tour for the 2009/10 season, by winning the EBSA Pro-Ticket Tour Play-offs. Career 2011/2012 season Baird reached the main draw of a ranking event for the first time in 2012 by coming through four qualifying matches, concluding with a 4–2 win over Dominic Dale, to make the 2012 Welsh Open. He played against world number 1, Mark Selby in the first round of the event and almost pulled off the result of his career as he led the best-of-seven match, 3–2. Baird then missed a blue off the spot with two balls remaining when he required just the blue and pink for the match and, despite chances in the decider, he would lose the game 3–4. Bai Yulu
Bai Yulu (; born 10 July 2003) is a Chinese professional snooker player who competes both on the women's tour and the main World Snooker Tour. A former world junior champion, she is the reigning women's world champion, having won the 2024 and 2025 World Women's Snooker Championships. The first player from mainland China to win the women's world title, she received a two-year tour card to the main professional World Snooker Tour from the start of the 2024–25 snooker season. At the 2024 UK Championship, Bai became the first female player to win three matches at a professional ranking event. Early life Bai Yulu was born in Weinan, Shaanxi. World Professional Billiards And Snooker Association
The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) is the governing body of professional snooker and English billiards. It is headquartered in Bristol, England. Founded as the Professional Billiard Players Association (PBPA) in 1946, with Joe Davis as chairman, it was revived in 1968 after some years of inactivity and renamed the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association in 1970. Its current chairman is Jason Ferguson. The WPBSA devises and publishes the official rules of the two sports. It promotes their global development at the grassroots, amateur, and professional levels; enforces conduct regulations and disciplines players who breach them; and works to combat corruption, such as by investigating betting irregularities. Additionally, it is involved in the coaching, development and training of referees. Bai Langning
Bai Langning (, born 17 April 2002) is a Chinese former professional snooker player who, in 2023, received a ban of two years and eight months from professional competition after committing match-fixing offences. In December 2022, Bai was suspended from the professional tour amid a match-fixing investigation. In January 2023, the WPBSA charged him with being concerned in fixing a match. Following an independent disciplinary tribunal, Bai was banned from professional competition until 6 August 2025. Investigators revealed that prior to the match-fixing he had accrued debts of £15,000. Career Early career Bai Langning was born in Jilin, and started playing snooker at the age of 7. Au Chi-wai (; born 19 November 1969), sometimes referred to as Au Chi Wai or Chi-wai Au in Western media), is an amateur snooker and pool player from Hong Kong. In snooker, he won (with Marco Fu), the silver medal in the snooker doubles event at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan. Au was also the second runner-up in the 2009 Asian Snooker Championships. Justin Astley
Justin Astley (born 20 May 1983) is an English former professional snooker player. He played on Challenge Tour The Challenge Tour, currently titled as the HotelPlanner Tour for sponsorship reasons and also sometimes referred to as the European Challenge Tour, is the second-tier men's professional golf tour in Europe. It is operated by the PGA European To ... in 2001/02, and first qualified for the Main Tour in 2002/03, but lost his place. Then he played on Challenge Tour again from 2003 to 2005. He returned for the 2005/2006 season, but he couldn't defend his place. In the 2009–10 season he reached the finals of the last two events of the International Open Series and was ranked seventh in the 2009/2010 PIOS rankings. As a result, Astley qualified for the 2010/2011 professional Main Tour, but dropped off at the end of the season. John Astley (snooker Player)
John J. Astley (born 13 January 1989) is an English former professional snooker player from Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. Career Early career Astley first came into prominence in 2007 by winning the national Under-19 title (defeating Michael Georgiou in the final), however wins in the amateur PIOS tournaments proved hard to come by. His attempts to qualify for the main tour via Q School in 2011 and 2012 were unsuccessful as well. Nevertheless, Astley gained enough sponsorship to be able to enter all the PTC events in the 2012–13 season as an amateur. He reached the last 32 stage three times and finished fourth highest ranked amateur on the Order of Merit, winning a tour card for 2013–14 and 2014–15 seasons. 2013/2014 Astley won his opening match of the season 5–2 against Mike Dunn to reach the main draw of the Wuxi Classic.
