Education In Barbados
Education in Barbados is based primarily on the British model. In the decades since independence most schools across the country have moved away from the Single-sex education framework and towards a more coeducational model. A number of offerings are available ranging from public or private accommodations in education to home schooling or boarding schools. University Of The West Indies, Cave Hill
University of the West Indies at Cave Hill is a public research university in Cave Hill, Barbados. It is one of five general campuses in the University of the West Indies system. It was the third campus to be established by the UWI System, following the Mona campus in Jamaica and the St. Augustine campus in Trinidad and Tobago. The Cave Hill campus is also the headquarters of the Open Campus, which is responsible for UWI programmes in the non-campus territories. The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus' academic programmes offer diversity at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Erdiston Teachers' Training College
The Erdiston Teachers' Training College is located in Pine Hill, Bridgetown, Barbados. It is affiliated with the School of Education of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. History Around 1912, Codrington College, under the direction of Principal Anstey, commenced delivering teacher training. The teacher training institution was called the Rawle Training Institute. It initially enrolled men only, accepting women a year or two later. The Rawle provided teacher training not just to Barbadians but to individuals from other parts of the West Indies. Rawle was the forerunner of the Erdiston Teachers' Training College, established in 1948, signalling the end of Codrington's involvement in teacher training and the closure of the Rawle Institute. Barbados Community College
The Barbados Community College is a tertiary institution located on Eyrie Howells' Road, Saint Michael, Barbados. History Founded in 1968, the Barbados Community College came to be as a result of an Act of Parliament aimed at making post secondary education more accessible to the Barbadian public. In 1990, the Act was amended by Parliament to allow for the following designations to be conferred upon students: Bachelor's degrees, Associate degrees, Diplomas and Certificates. Prior to this Act, degrees were available only at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.
