Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) is one of eleven schools in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Edinburgh. Tracing its history back to 1760, it provides higher education in art and design, architecture, history of art, and music disciplines for over three thousand students and is at the forefront of research and research-led teaching in the creative arts, humanities, and creative technologies. William Delacour
William Delacour (also known as William Delacourt or William De la Cour) (1700–1767) was a French painter. He was active from 1741 until 1767. His work is held in the collection of the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. Biography William Delacour is believed to have been either born in France or in Great Britain to French parents. From historical record, it is known that he became active in Great Britain in 1740. It was then that he was painting theatrical scenery. He created scenery for operas by Giovanni Battista Pescetti. He also may have designed works for John Rich. Around 1750, he published eight different books, called ''Books of Ornaments'', about Rococo design. Screen Academy Scotland
The Screen Academy Scotland (A Skillset Film Academy) is a collaboration between Edinburgh Napier University and Edinburgh College of Art. It was opened in August 2005 by the then First Minister of Scotland, Jack McConnell, and is based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Both Edinburgh Napier and ECA had already established film making courses. Napier's combined photography and film undergraduate BA launched Cannes prizewinner Lynne Ramsay on her journey to film directing. The Academy offers practical, project-based, postgraduate courses. A new Production Centre was opened in August 2006 by Napier Honorary Graduate Tilda Swinton. Edinburgh Napier University () is a public university in Edinburgh, Scotland. Napier Technical College, the predecessor of the university, was founded in 1964, taking its name from 16th-century Scottish mathematician and philosopher John Napier. Reid Professor Of Music
The Reid Professorship in Music was a position founded within the University of Edinburgh in 1839 using funds provided in a bequest from General John Reid. History On his death in 1807 General John Reid left a fortune of more than £50,000. Subject to the life-interest of his only daughter, who had married a Mr Robertson without his consent, he left this money to found a professorship of music in the University of Edinburgh, and to be further applied to the purchase of a library, or otherwise laid out in such a manner as the principal and professors of the university might think proper. Accordingly, in 1839, after the daughter's death, the chair of music was founded. Michael William Russell (born 9 August 1953) is a Scottish politician serving as Chairman of the Scottish Land Commission since 2024, having previously served in the Scottish Cabinet under Alex Salmond and Nicola Sturgeon. A member of the Scottish National Party (SNP), he was the Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for Argyll and Bute from 2011 to 2021, and a list MSP for South of Scotland from 1999 to 2003 and 2007 to 2011. Richard Burchett (1815–1875) was a British artist and educator on the fringes of the Pre-Raphaelite movement, who was for over twenty years the Headmaster of what later became the Royal College of Art. He was later described as "a prominent figure in the art-schools, a well-instructed painter, and a teacher exceptionally equipped with all the learning of his craft" by his ex-pupil, the poet Henry Austin Dobson, Austin Dobson. Andrew Wilson (artist)
Andrew Wilson (1780–1848) was a Scottish landscape-painter. Life Born in Edinburgh, he came of an old Jacobitism, Jacobite family. His father was Archibald Wilson, and his mother Elizabeth Shields. When quite young he began to study art under Alexander Nasmyth, and then, at the age of seventeen, went to London, where he worked for some time in the schools of the Royal Academy. He went to Italy in 1800, returning for two more tours, and studied the masters, and became acquainted with the collectors Champernown and Irving. He also made many sketches, principally of the architecture in the neighbourhood of Rome and Naples. Returning to London in 1803, he saw the advantage of importing pictures by the old masters, and went back to Italy. Europe was at war again, but he reached Genoa, where he settled under the protection of the American consul and was elected a member of the Ligurian Academy.
