Dovre Line
The Dovre Line () is a Norwegian railway line with three slightly different lines which all lead to the historic city of Trondheim (city), Trondheim. Definition *Dovre Line is the main line between Eidsvoll Station and Trondheim Station, used by Norwegian National Rail Administration, Jernbaneverket since 2008. *Dovre Line is also the current name of the main line of the Rail transport in Norway, Norwegian railway system (Jernbaneverket) between Oslo and Trondheim, used when referring to the long-distance passenger trains. *Dovre Line was the name of the main line between Dombås and Trondheim until 2008. The most inclusive of these meanings of Dovre Line thus includes the other two. Dombås
is a village or small town in Dovre Municipality in northern Innlandet county, Norway. The village serves as the commercial centre for the upper Gudbrandsdalen valley. It lies at an important junction of roads with the European route E6 highway heading north and south connecting the cities of Oslo and Trondheim and the European route E136 highway heading west to Åndalsnes. Gulfoss Tunnel
Gulfoss Tunnel is a railway tunnel situated in Melhus Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The tunnel runs beneath the village of Hovin, alongside the river Gaula past the Gulfossen waterfall. The tunnel carries a single, electrified track of the Dovrebanen railway line. The Trondhjem–Støren Line, which opened in 1864, crossed the river Gaula on a bridge to the opposite side of the river at the current site of the tunnel. This section of track was a challenge due to regular flooding. With the 1908 decision to build the Dovrebanen Line and gauge conversion, the Gulfossen section became one of two parts of the line to be reworked. Gulfoss Tunnel opened on 6 July 1918. Gaula (Trøndelag)
The Gaula is a river that flows through the Gauldal valley in Trøndelag county, Norway. The long river is the largest in Central Norway. The river begins in Holtålen Municipality near the mountain Kjølifjellet. It then flows through Holtålen Municipality, Midtre Gauldal Municipality, and Melhus Municipality before emptying into Trondheimsfjord near Nypan/Leinstrand on the border between Trondheim Municipality and Melhus Municipality. Rauma Line
The Rauma Line () is a long railway between the town of Åndalsnes (in Rauma Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county), and the village of Dombås (in Dovre Municipality in Innlandet county), in Norway. Running down the Romsdalen valley, the line opened between 1921 and 1924 as a branch of the Dovre Line, which connects to the cities of Oslo and Trondheim. Originally intended as the first stage to connect Ålesund (town), Ålesund, and possibly also Molde (town), Molde and Kristiansund (town), Kristiansund, no extensions have ever been realized. NSB Class 49
The NSB Class 49, nicknamed (''"the Dovre Giant"''), locomotives were 2-8-4 steam locomotives used to pull heavy trains on the Dovre Line. It is the largest type of steam locomotive in the history of the Norwegian State Railways. The engines came in three series, the 49a, 49b and 49c. Between 1935 and 1941 five engines were produced by Hamar & Thune, two by Krupp AG. Røros Line
The Røros Line () is a rail transport, railway line which runs through the districts of Norway, districts of Hedmarken, Østerdalen, and Gauldalen in Innlandet and Trøndelag, Norway. The line branches off from the Dovre Line at Hamar Station and runs a more easterly route to Støren Station, where the two lines meet again. The Røros Line also intersects with the Solør Line at Elverum Station. The single track (rail), single track, standard gauge line lacks railway electrification system, electrification and only has centralized traffic control south of Røros Station. Hjerkinn Station 1970
Hjerkinn is a village in Dovre Municipality in Innlandet county in Norway. The village is located in the Dovrefjell mountains, about northeast of the village of Dombås and about northwest of the village of Folldal. It is one of the driest places in the country, with only annual precipitation in the 10-year period 1905-14.
