Despot or ''despotes'' () was a senior Byzantine court title that was bestowed on the sons or sons-in-law of reigning emperors, and initially denoted the heir-apparent of the Byzantine emperor. From Byzantium it spread throughout the late medieval Balkans and was also granted in the states under Byzantine cultural influence, such as the Latin Empire, the Second Bulgarian Empire, the Serbian Empire and its successor states ( Bulgarian and ), and the Empire of Trebizond. With the political fragmentation of the period, the term gave rise to several principalities termed "despotates" which were ruled either as independent states or as appanages by princes bearing the title of despot; most notably the Despotate of Epirus, the Despotate of the Morea, the Despotate of Dobruja and the Serbian Despotate. In political science, despotism () is a government, form of government in which a single entity rules with absolute Power (social and political), power. Normally, that entity is an individual, the despot (as in an autocracy), but societies which limit respect and power to specific groups have also been called despotic. Despot ( sr-Cyrl, Деспот) is a multi-functional armoured vehicle developed by the arms manufacturer Tehnički remont Bratunac in Bratunac, Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The vehicle can be used for police and military purposes. Its main roles are patrol and reconnaissance missions, commanding, transport and support of special operation units, medical purposes, counter-terrorism operations and peace action in cases of different weather conditions. A prototype was unveiled to the public on January 9, 2019 during the annual Republic Day parade in Banja Luka. The first two serially produced models were procured for the Training Center of the Ministry of Interior of Republika Srpska in Zalužani, near Banja Luka, where the vehicles will be stationed for the purposes of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit. Despot Badžović
Despot S. Badžović (, ) (1850 — 30 November 1930) was a teacher and an activist of the Serbian national movement in Macedonia. Badžović was also one of the early '' Macedonists'', who developed some kind of pro-Serbian Slav Macedonian identity. Teacher in Kruševo Despot Badžović and his brother Đorđe graduated at the Second Department of the Belgrade Orthodox Seminary founded by Miloš Milojević. In 1871 Badžović opened a Serbian school in Kruševo for about 60 students where he and his brother Đorđe were the first teachers. Đorđe left the school in 1875 to become a teacher in Smilevo, and Despot left in 1876 to live in Serbia. Their brother Kuzman and his wife, Jelena Badžović, replaced them as teachers. Blaženka Despot (January 1, 1930 in Zagreb – February 18, 2001 in Zagreb) was a Croatian philosopher, socialist feminist, and sociologist. After finishing high school in Zagreb in 1948 and studying philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, she received her PhD in Ljubljana in 1970 with a thesis on the humanity of the technological society. During the period 1956–64, she worked as a high school teacher and then as an assistant at the Department of Socialism at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In 1974, she was appointed as an associate professor of sociology and political economy, receiving full professorship in 1980 as a professor of Marxism, socialism and socialist self-management at the Veterinary Faculty in Zagreb. Branko Despot (born July 6, 1942, Zagreb) is a Croatian philosopher. He is the son of Miroslava Despot, a prominent economic and cultural historian. After finishing gymnasium in Zagreb in 1961, he graduated in philosophy and Ancient Greek in 1965 at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, where he also received his PhD in 1975 with a thesis on the philosophy of Vladimir Dvorniković. He worked as a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy since 1968, and since 1971 at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, at first as an assistant, as a docent (1979–84) and then as a professor at the Chair of History of Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy. Dragan Despot (born 14 July 1956) is a Croatian actor. He has appeared in more than twenty films since 1979. Despot graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Art, University of Zagreb, Academy of Dramatic Art at the University of Zagreb, where his teacher was Tonko Lonza in 1981. In 1983 he joined Croatian National Theatre in Mostar and the same year performed at the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. Iacob Heraclid (or Eraclid; ; 1527 – November 5, 1563), born Basilicò and also known as Iacobus Heraclides, Heraclid Despotul, or Despot Vodă ("The Voivode Despot"), was a Greeks in Malta, Greek Maltese soldier, adventurer and intellectual, who reigned as List of rulers of Moldavia, Prince of Moldavia from November 1561 to November 1563. Ilija Despot ( Zaostrog, 20 July 1885 – Split, 28 November 1970) was a Croatian theologian, lawyer, poet and writer. Early life Ilija Despot was the son of Pavao Despot (1847 - 1888) and Countess Manda Kostanjić (1849 - 1918) of the noble house of Kostanjić from Drvenik. He was also the nephew of the Croatian writer Ivan Despot, after whose example he wished to become a priest. After his theological studies in Zadar however, he decided to remain a layman and went on to study law, in which he achieved a doctorate in Zagreb in 1920.
