Derde Divisie Players
The ''derde'' (derda, derdai, dardai) is the title held by the highest religious and political authority among the Toubou Teda of the resident in Tibesti, in north-western Chad. He is elected among the three most prominent families of the Tomagra clan, and at the death of the ''derde'' the title never passes to the son of the deceased, but to a member of the other two families. The ''derde'' exercises judicial and executive power, arbitrating conflict and levying sanctions based on a code of compensations. He is assisted in the exercise of his role by a council of nobles. It appears that already in the 12th century the ''derde'' of the Tomaghra of Bornu had already established its preeminence over much of the Tibesti, through the lines of succession still valid today. Toubou
The Toubou or Tubu (from Old Tebu, meaning "rock people") are an ethnic group native to the Tibesti Mountains that inhabit the central Sahara in northern Chad, southern Libya, northeastern Niger, and northwestern Sudan. They live either as herders and nomads or as farmers near oases. Their society is clan-based, with each clan having certain oases, pastures and wells. The Toubou are generally divided into two closely related groups: the Teda (or Tuda, Téda, Toda, Tira) and the Daza (or Dazzaga, Dazagara, Dazagada). They are believed to share a common origin and speak the Tebu languages, which are from the Saharan branch of the Nilo-Saharan language family. Tebu is divided further into two closely related languages, called '' Tedaga'' (Téda Toubou) and ''Dazaga'' (Daza Toubou). Tibesti
The Tibesti Mountains are a mountain range in the central Sahara, primarily located in the extreme north of Chad, with a small portion located in southern Libya. The highest peak in the range, Emi Koussi, lies to the south at a height of and is the highest point in both Chad and the Sahara. Bikku Bitti, the highest peak in Libya, is located in the north of the range. The central third of the Tibesti is of volcanic origin and consists of five volcanoes topped by large depressions: Emi Koussi, Tarso Toon, Tarso Voon, Tarso Yega and Toussidé. Fezzan
Fezzan ( , ; ; ; ) is the southwestern region of modern Libya. It is largely desert, but broken by mountains, uplands, and dry river valleys (wadis) in the north, where oases enable ancient towns and villages to survive deep in the otherwise inhospitable Sahara Desert. Oueddei Kichidemi (died December 1977) was the father of the former Chadian President Goukouni Oueddei and was the tribal leader, or '' derde'', of the Toubou Teda of the Tibesti during the First Chadian Civil War.
