Depeche Mode
Depeche Mode are an English electronic music, electronic band formed in Basildon, Essex in 1980. Originally formed with the line-up of Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Andy Fletcher (musician), Andy Fletcher and Vince Clarke, the band currently consists of Gahan and Gore. With Clarke as their primary songwriter, Depeche Mode released their debut album ''Speak & Spell (album), Speak & Spell'' in 1981 amid the British New wave music, new wave scene. Clarke left the band at the end of 1981, going on to form the groups Yazoo (band), Yazoo and later Erasure (duo), Erasure. Andy Fletcher (musician)
Andrew John Fletcher (8 July 1961 – 26 May 2022), also known as Fletch, was an English keyboard player and founding member of the electronic band Depeche Mode. In 2020, he and the band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Early life Fletcher was the eldest of four siblings born to Joy and John Fletcher. The family moved to Basildon from Nottingham when he was two years old, when his father, an engineer, was offered a job at a cigarette factory. He was active in the local Boys' Brigade from an early age, primarily to play football. He attended Nicholas Comprehensive where he was in the same sixth form class as Martin Gore and Alison Moyet. Music For The Masses
''Music for the Masses'' is the sixth studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released on 28 September 1987 by Mute Records. The album was supported by the Music for the Masses Tour, which launched their fame in the United States when they performed at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. The tour led to the creation and filming of the documentary/live album titled '' 101''. Considered one of the band's best albums, ''Music for the Masses'' was included in the book '' 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die'' (2006). The album reached number 10 on the UK Albums Chart. ''Black Celebration'' is the fifth studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released on 17 March 1986 by Mute Records. The album's co-producer Daniel Miller devised "a plan to capture the essence of the dark works" that Martin Gore created because Martin Gore had no intention of compromising the mood that his demos had set. Miller and Gareth Jones produced the album to be more like an environment rather than a collection of songs. Their production created "a tech-noir future dystopia" that "glitters of gloom". The album was promoted by the singles "Stripped", "A Question of Lust", and " A Question of Time". In the US, " But Not Tonight" was released as a single instead of "Stripped". ''Some Great Reward'' is the fourth studio album by the English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released on 24 September 1984 by Mute Records. The album peaked at number five in the United Kingdom and number 51 in the United States, and was supported by the Some Great Reward Tour. This also saw the band using samplers, much like they did in their previous studio album ''Construction Time Again'' (1983), which they would continue to use in their following studio albums ''Black Celebration'' (1986), '' Music for the Masses'' (1987) and '' Violator'' (1990). It was the band's first album to feature Alan Wilder as a member, who wrote the songs "Two Minute Warning" and "The Landscape Is Changing". ''A Broken Frame'' is the second studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released on 27 September 1982 by Mute Records. The album was written entirely by Martin Gore and was recorded as a trio after the departure of Vince Clarke, who had left and formed Yazoo with singer Alison Moyet. Alan Wilder, initially hired as a tour musician, does not appear on ''A Broken Frame'', but was officially acknowledged as a band member the month after the album's release. Erasure ( ) are an English synth-pop duo formed in London in 1985, consisting of lead vocalist and songwriter Andy Bell (singer), Andy Bell and songwriter, producer and keyboardist Vince Clarke, previously co-founder of the band Depeche Mode and a member of synth-pop duo Yazoo (band), Yazoo. From their fourth single, "Sometimes (Erasure song), Sometimes" (1986), Erasure established themselves on the UK Singles Chart, becoming one of the most successful acts of the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s. Yazoo (known as Yaz in North America) were an English synth-pop duo from Basildon, Essex, formed in late 1981 by former Depeche Mode member Vince Clarke (keyboards) and Alison Moyet (vocals). The pair released two albums, ''Upstairs at Eric's'' and ''You and Me Both''. Yazoo played a key role in shaping the emerging genre of synth-pop, particularly in the mid-1980s house music scene. New Wave Music
New wave is a music genre that encompasses pop music, pop-oriented styles from the 1970s through the 1980s. It is considered a lighter and more melodic "broadening of Punk subculture, punk culture". ''Speak & Spell'' is the debut studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode. It was released in October 1981 by Mute Records in the UK, and Sire Records in the US. It was the band's only album to feature founding member Vince Clarke. The album peaked at number 10 on the UK Albums Chart, and was ranked number 991 in the 2000 book ''All Time Top 1000 Albums''. Band formation and first singles Founding members Vince Clarke, Martin Gore and Andrew Fletcher had joined to form the band "Composition of Sound" and played their first live show on 30 May, 1980 in Basildon, UK. At their first show, Clarke was the singer for the band, but he felt that the band needed a front man to make their show more interesting, as Clarke was always standing behind his keyboard.
