Denys Irving
Denys George Irving (4 January 1944–5 August 1976), was a Welsh filmmaker and musician from Colwyn Bay, North Wales. Biography He grew up in South London and was educated at Dulwich College (1954–1961), where he was awarded the Fawkes Memorial Scholarship to Balliol College, Oxford (1962), where he read Philosophy, Politics and Economics. After graduating in 1966 he went on to study at the London School of Economics, and was a graduate student in the Philosophy Ph.D. program at Columbia University, New York. Whilst at Columbia in 1968, Denys was actively involved in student politics, notably during the student demonstrations in May, when he was prominent among a large number of students who occupied Fairweather Hall. It was at Columbia that Denys became interested in artificial intelligence and started working with computers. Denys Serhiyovych Balanyuk (; born 16 January 1997) is a Ukrainian professional footballer who plays as a striker. Career Balanyuk is a product of the sports school ♯11 in Odesa. Denys Val Baker (24 October 1917 – 6 July 1984) was a Welsh writer, specialising in short stories, novels, and autobiography. He was also known for his activities as an editor, and promotion of the arts in Cornwall. Early years Born Denys Baker in Poppleton, York, North Riding of Yorkshire on 24 October 1917 where his father, the Welsh-born Valentine Henry Baker, was stationed as a pilot instructor during World War I. His mother was Dilys Eames, who was from Anglesey in North Wales and had played harp at the National Eisteddfod of 1901. He grew up in Sussex and eventually lived with his parents in Surbiton, then in Surrey, now in Greater London. Stanley Denys Trevor Spittle OBE, MA, FSA, (Cambridge 1920 – 7 December 2003) was an English archaeologist. Biography Spittle studied architecture at Pembroke College, Cambridge, and in 1935 became a member of the “Friends of the Fitzwilliam Museumâ€. Spittle was involved in the 1951 Samothrace Expedition of the New York University Institute of Fine Arts which unearthed two ancient Greek structures - a hall for votive gifts of the sixth century B.C. and a great altar court. Spittle also contributed to the reports on the preceding excavations, published in 1964 and 1982.
