David Attenborough
Sir David Frederick Attenborough (; born 8 May 1926) is an English broadcaster, biologist, natural historian and writer. He is best known for writing and presenting, in conjunction with the BBC Studios Natural History Unit, the nine nature documentary series forming the ''Life'' Collection, a comprehensive survey of animal and plant life on Earth. Attenborough was a senior manager at the BBC, having served as controller of BBC Two and director of programming for BBC Television in the 1960s and 1970s. The title of Knight Bachelor is the basic rank granted to a man who has been knighted by the monarch but not inducted as a member of one of the organised Order of chivalry, orders of chivalry; it is a part of the Orders, decorations, and medals of the United Kingdom, British honours system. Knights Bachelor are the most ancient sort of British knight (the rank existed during the 13th-century reign of Henry III of England, King Henry III), but Knights Bachelor rank below knights of chivalric orders. BBC Two is a British free-to-air public broadcast television channel owned and operated by the BBC. ''The Life Collection'' is a 26-disc DVD box set of nine titles from David Attenborough's ''Life'' series of programmes for the BBC Natural History Unit. It was originally released in the United Kingdom on 5 December 2005 (containing 8 titles). The ninth title was added in a 2018 reissue. BBC Studios Natural History Unit
The BBC Studios Natural History Unit (NHU) is a department of BBC Studios that produces television, radio and online content with a natural history or wildlife theme. It is best known for its highly regarded nature documentaries, including '' The Blue Planet'' and ''Planet Earth'', and has a long association with David Attenborough's authored documentaries, starting with 1979's '' Life on Earth''. The Natural History Unit is a specialist department within BBC Studios Productions. Each year it produces around 100 hours of television and 50 hours of radio programmes, making it the largest wildlife documentary production house in the world. Desert Island Discs
''Desert Island Discs'' is a radio programme broadcast on BBC Radio 4. It was first broadcast on the BBC Forces Programme on 29 January 1942. Each week a guest, called a " castaway" during the programme, is asked to choose eight audio recordings (usually, but not always, music), a book and a luxury item that they would like to take if they were to be cast away on a desert island, whilst discussing their life and the reasons for their choices. It was devised and originally presented by Roy Plomley. Since 2018, the programme has been presented by Lauren Laverne. More than 3,400 episodes have been recorded, with some guests having appeared more than once and some episodes featuring more than one guest. An example of a guest who falls into both categories is Bob Monkhouse, who appeared with his co-writer Denis Goodwin on 12 December 1955 and in his own right on 20 December 1998. William Attenborough (born 26 June 1991) is a British actor and climate campaigner. Early life Attenborough was born in Hammersmith, London. He is the son of theatre director Michael Attenborough and actress Karen Lewis, the grandson of actor-director Richard Attenborough and actress Sheila Sim, as well as great-nephew of naturalist Sir David Attenborough. Jane Mary Attenborough (30 September 1955 – 26 December 2004) was an English arts administrator and arts manager. The eldest daughter of the actor and filmmaker Richard Attenborough and the actress Sheila Sim, she was first employed as overseas membership secretary at the Royal Academy of Dance. Sheila Beryl Grant Sim, Baroness Attenborough (5 June 1922 – 19 January 2016) was an English film and theatre actress. She was also the wife of the actor, director and peer Richard Attenborough. Career Sheila Beryl Grant Sim was born in Liverpool, Lancashire, only daughter of banker Stuart Grant Sim (1893–1975) and his wife Ida Isabel Carter, who were married in April 1920. John Attenborough
John Michael Attenborough (; 1 January 1928 – 9 November 2012) was an English executive in the motor industry and then a financial adviser. He was the younger brother of director and actor Richard Attenborough, and the naturalist Sir David Attenborough. Like his brothers, he was educated at Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys in Leicester. After National Service, he studied modern languages at Clare College, Cambridge. He worked in the motor trade and became a managing director of Mann Egerton, heading their Rolls-Royce division in Berkeley Street. He then became the head of the British operations of Italian car manufacturer Alfa Romeo.
