Daejeon
Daejeon (; ) is South Korea's list of cities in South Korea, fifth-largest metropolis, with a population of nearly 1.5 million. Located in a central lowland valley between the Sobaek Mountains and the Geum River, the city is known both as a technology and research center, and for its close relationship with the natural environment. Daejeon serves as a hub of transportation for major rail and road routes, and is approximately 50 minutes from the capital, Seoul, by Korea Train Express, KTX or Suseo high-speed railway, SRT high speed rail. Daejeon (along with Seoul, Gwacheon and Sejong City) is one of South Korea's administration hubs. Daejeon Station
Daejeon Station () is on South Korea's high-speed KTX railway network, 166.6 km south of Seoul Station. History The station opened on January 1, 1905, in the period of Korea under Japanese rule and KTX trains on the Gyeongbu Line began services on April 1, 2004. The station inspired the romantic blues ballad "Daejeon Blues" that has been preferred by musicians throughout Asia and has become a Korean classic. The melody of the song is played on the speakers of the subway trains upon arriving at Daejeon Station. The station was used for the 2016 film ''Train to Busan''. Services Daejeon Station serves all KTX trains on the Gyeongbu Line. It also has express services and local services on the normal speed Gyeongbu Line. The station is served by the Daejeon Line, a short line connecting Daejeon Station with Seodaejeon station, and also by the Daejeon Subway. Daejeoncheon
The Daejeoncheon () is a national river of South Korea within the Geum River system, and one of the three major rivers (including Gapcheon and Yudeungcheon) that flow through Daejeon. The river originates within Daejeon, at Mr. Manin and Mt. Bipa, approximately 15 km (9 mi) to the south of the city center, and flows to the north through the city's old downtown, dividing the districts of Jung-gu and Dong-gu, before merging with the Yudeongcheon river. Restoration and access The Daejeoncheon was previously used as a parking lot, but has undergone substantial restoration in recent decades, removing a large department store which covered the river, and removing motor vehicle access and parking lots at several points. New infrastructure includes low-impact cycling and walking paths, along with natural areas to promote riparian ecosystem regrowth. Bomunsan
Bomunsan (), is an urban mountain park in the south of Daejeon in Korea, with a peak elevation of 457.6 m (1,501 ft). Known as one of the Eight Great Views Daejeon, Bomunsan was established as a park in 1965, and contains multiple culture, sports, and heritage sites, some dating back as far as the Bronze Age. The vicinity of the mountain is home to multiple amusement, sports, and health facilities including an outdoor concert hall, a Youth Square, and O-World amusement park and zoo, and the Bomunsan Forest Healing Center. Cultural heritage sites include the figure of a seated Buddha figure carved into the mountainside (c. late Goryeo dynasty), and the reconstructed ruins of an ancient fortress, as well as multiple Buddhist temples both within and bordering the park. Geum River
The Geum River is a major river of South Korea that originates in Jangsu-eup, North Jeolla Province. It flows northward through North Jeolla and North Chungcheong Provinces and then changes direction in the vicinity of Greater Daejeon and flows southwest through South Chungcheong Province before emptying into the Yellow Sea near Gunsan. The river is long, making it the third longest in South Korea. The area of the Geum River Basin is . The upper part of the river flows slowly through part of the Noryeongsanmaek Mountains and is marked by extensive stream meandering. On the other hand, river curves on middle and lower parts of the river are more gradual and there is comparatively less stream meandering.
