Jiří Paroubek
Jiří Paroubek (; born 21 August 1952) is a Czech politician, who was the prime minister of the Czech Republic from April 2005 to September 2006. He was also the leader of the Czech Social Democratic Party from 2006 until his resignation following the 2010 legislative election. Early life and career Paroubek was born in Olomouc and attended Jan Neruda Grammar School. He entered politics in 1970 at the age of 18, joining the Czechoslovak Socialist Party, a member party of the Czechoslovak National Front. He reached the lower levels of the party hierarchy before leaving the party in 1986. Paroubek spent his one-year military service as an army food services supervisor in the southern Bohemian city of Prachatice. The Senate () is the upper house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The seat of the Senate is Wallenstein Palace in Prague. Structure The Senate has 81 members, chosen in single-seat constituencies through the two-round system. If no candidate receives a majority of votes in the first round, there is a second round between the two highest-placed candidates. The term of office for Senators is six years, and elections are Staggered elections, staggered so that a third of the seats are up for election every two years. 2010 Czech Legislative Election
Parliamentary elections were held in the Czech Republic on 28–29 May 2010 to elect the 200 members of the Chamber of Deputies. The elections had been expected to take place sometime before the end of 2009, but was postponed due to legal challenges. Before the election, the country had been governed by a caretaker administration headed by Jan Fischer. The Czech Social Democratic Party (ČSSD) was the front-runner of the election and its leader Jiří Paroubek was the favourite to become the new prime minister. ČSSD came first in the election, although they suffered significant losses in seats and the popular vote. The 2009 European Parliament election in Czech Republic was the election of the delegation from Czech Republic to the European Parliament in 2009. The Civic Democratic Party has won the election with a surprisingly strong lead against the Czech Social Democratic Party. Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia came third and the Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People's Party became the last party to enter the Parliament. Two newly founded right-wing parties, the Czech wing Libertas.cz of Declan Ganley's Libertas founded by Vladimír Železný and the Party of Free Citizens, ran in the election. The Independents () is a political party in the Czech Republic. History The party was established on 8 September 1994 as the Association of Prague Independents, before adopting its current name in 1995. In the 1996 Chamber of Deputies and Senate elections it received 0.5% of the vote and failed to win a seat. Despite increasing its vote share to 0.9% in the Chamber of Deputies elections and 0.8% in the Senate elections of 1998, the party remained seatless. The 2000 Senate elections saw the party finish fifth, although with only 1.5% of the vote and no seats. However, in the 2002 Senate elections the party received 4% of the vote in the first round, and won two seats. They won two seats in the European Parliament in the 2004 elections, and another seat in the Senate elections later the same year. Petr Hannig
Petr Hannig (20 January 1946 – 21 January 2025) was a Czech singer, producer, politician and leader of the Party of Common Sense. In July 2017, he announced his candidacy for the president of the Czech Republic in the 2018 election. Having finished seventh in the first round with 0.56% of the vote, Hannig then endorsed Miloš Zeman Miloš Zeman (; born 28 September 1944) is a Czech politician who served as the third president of the Czech Republic from 2013 to 2023.
