Czech Society Of Actuaries
The Czech Society of Actuaries (CSA, ) is the association of actuaries in Czechia. It aims to promote education and research in actuarial science and to mediate social and professional contacts among actuaries. The Society is a full member of the International Actuarial Association and the Actuarial Association of Europe. As of 2023, it has around 350 members, more than 110 of them fully qualified. Current chairman of the Society is Jan Šváb. History Society of Czechoslovak Insurance Technicians Actuarial science started to be taught at the Prague Polytechnic in 1904, and the first students graduated in 1907. By 1918, more than 170 graduates completed the course. On 27 February 1919, the Society of Czechoslovak Insurance Technicians () was established. An actuary is a professional with advanced mathematical skills who deals with the measurement and management of risk and uncertainty. These risks can affect both sides of the balance sheet and require investment management, asset management, liability (financial accounting), liability management, and valuation skills. The International Actuarial Association (IAA) is a worldwide association of local professional actuarial associations. History The IAA is the continuation of the ''Comité Permanent des Congrès d’Actuaires'', established in 1895, as an association of individuals. It was renamed the IAA in 1968. At the 26th International Congress of Actuaries, held in Birmingham on 7–12 June 1998, the General Assembly of the International Actuarial Association restructured itself. 1948 Czechoslovak Coup D'état
In late February 1948, the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KSČ), with Soviet backing, assumed undisputed control over the government of Czechoslovakia through a coup d'état. It marked the beginning of four decades of the party's rule in the country. The KSČ enjoyed a period of popularity following the reestablishment of pre-war Czechoslovakia. After a successful performance during the 1946 parliamentary election, party leader Klement Gottwald became prime minister of a coalition government at the behest of President Edvard Beneš. By summer 1947, however, the KSČ's popularity had significantly dwindled, and the party was expected to be soundly defeated in the May 1948 elections. Petr Mandl
Professor Petr Mandl DSc (5 November 1933 – 24 February 2012) was a Czech mathematician known for his contributions to the fields of stochastic processes and actuarial science. He published several books and more than hundred articles. Petr Mandl was a founding member, former chairman and honorary chairman of the Czech Society of Actuaries. Biography Mandl was born in Plzeň, Czechoslovakia on 5 November 1933. His father was Vladimír Mandl. In 1957, he graduated at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, Prague. After twenty years spent at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences he returned to the university as a lecturer. In 1992, he revived studies of actuarial science in Czechoslovakia by introducing a course of Financial and Insurance Mathematics within the Department of Probability and Mathematical Statistics.
