The Czech Republic competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's sixth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics after splitting from the former ''Czechoslovakia''. The Czech team consisted of 105 athletes, 63 men and 42 women, across twenty sports. Czech Republic returned home from Rio de Janeiro with a total of 10 medals (1 gold, 2 silver, and 7 bronze), marking the country's second-most successful Olympics, behind tallies of 11 achieved at Atlanta 1996 and London 2012. Nino Schurter (born 13 May 1986) is a Swiss cross-country cyclist who races for the Scott–Sram MTB Racing Team. Schurter won the world championship in men's cross-country in 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 and the overall UCI World Cup in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023 and thus become the first man to hold 9 World Cup overall titles. Jiří Prskavec (; born 18 May 1993) is a Czech slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2008, specializing in the K1 discipline. In 2023 he also started competing in C1. He also occasionally appears in kayak cross. Canoeing At The 2016 Summer Olympics
Canoeing at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was contested in two main disciplines: canoe slalom, from 7 to 11 August, and canoe sprint, from 15 to 20 August. The slalom competition was held at the Olympic Whitewater Stadium; whereas the sprint events were staged at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, Copacabana. The location for canoeing events was a source of concern for athletes since the Brazilian federal government's Oswaldo Cruz Foundation lab has found the genes of Antimicrobial resistance, drug-resistant super bacteria in Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon.
