Cummings' Guest House
The Cummings' Guest House is a historic African-American summer boarding house at 110 Portland Avenue in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Established in 1923, it was one of the only places in the community offering summer accommodations to African-Americans during the period of Jim Crow segregation. Prominent guests included Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Count Basie, and Lionel Hampton. The property, which reverted to completely private use by the Cummingses in 1993, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. Description The house is a vernacular Victorian wood frame structure built about 1870, probably as a farmhouse. The present structure includes the original house and a small barn, which have been joined by a two-story addition. The building once had a porch that wrapped around the southern and eastern facades, provide a measure of unity to the building's disparate elements; this has since been removed. Holt-Cummings-Davis House
The Holt-Cummings-Davis House is a historic house located in Andover, Massachusetts. It is estimated to have been built around 1700 at a location across the street, and nothing is known of its owners at the time. The first recorded owner was William Hawley, who bought it in 1803. It was purchased in 1835 by Job Abbott as a wedding present for is daughter Lucy, who married Joseph Holt. Under their ownership it was moved to its present location, and a new house was built on the old site. This house was next owned by Daniel Cummings, who married into the Holt family. In 1895 the property was bought by Augustus Davis, whose family owned it until 1935. The house itself is an unusual -story First Period house, six irregularly spaced bays wide, with a slightly off-center chimney. The house has been restored, and a large modern addition has been added to its west end. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Byron Cummings House
The Perkins Addition was a 13-house development in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ten of its houses survived in 1983 and nine were each individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History The Perkins Addition was a "streetcar subdivision" development of 13 brick houses, all built in 1891 by a Denver investment company, ten of which survived in 1983 and nine of which were listed on the National Register. The nine NRHP-listed ones are each covered in a section below. The one not NRHP-listed is the Elgin S. Yankee House, at 955 E. 1700 South. John Vaughan John Vaughan was an architect who designed many homes. W.S. Burhaus W.S. Burhaus was a contractor who built many of them.
