Cumbia Rebajada
Cumbia rebajada is a musical subgenre derived from Cumbia (Colombia), Colombian cumbia and Mexican cumbia that emerged in Monterrey, Nuevo León (Mexico). History Due to Colombian immigration to Monterrey in the second half of the 20th century and the importation of records from Mexico City, various musical genres from the South American country became popular, such as cumbia, vallenato, and porro. This popularization through parties would give rise to the phenomenon known as "Kolombia (subculture), Kolombia" in places like the Independencia, Monterrey, Independencia neighborhood. According to Gabriel Duéñez, a sound engineer for four decades and a collector of Colombian music from Monterrey, the rebajada originated accidentally when the beats-per-minute control on his Sonido Duéñez music player broke down and began to play Colombian music at a slower speed, resulting in a "more ''rebajado'' (slowed-down), more watery" rhythm. ''Kolombia'' or ''Cholombiano'' was an urban subculture that emerged in Mexico, specifically in Monterrey, Nuevo León. Cumbia
Cumbia refers to a number of musical rhythms and folk dance traditions of Latin America, generally involving musical and cultural elements from American Indigenous peoples, Europeans, and Africans during colonial times. Cumbia is said to have come from funeral traditions in the Afro-Colombian community. Reggae
Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica during the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its Jamaican diaspora, diaspora. Independencia is a neighborhood in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. History This neighborhood has a different history than other already established settlements in the city. The porro is a musical style and dance from the Caribbean region of Colombia. It is a Colombian cumbia rhythm that developed into its own subgenre. It was originally a folkloric expression from the Sinú River area that evolved into a ballroom dance. It is played mostly by brass bands or orchestras, and danced in couples. Mexican Cumbia
Mexican cumbia is a type of cumbia, a music which originated in Colombia but was later reinvented and adapted in Mexico. Origins The cumbia has its origins in Colombia going back at least as far as the early 1800s, with elements from indigenous and black music traditions. In the 1940s, Colombian singer Luis Carlos Meyer Castandet emigrated to Mexico, where he worked with Mexican orchestra director Rafael de Paz. In the 1950s, he recorded what many believe to be the first cumbia recorded outside of Colombia, "La Cumbia Cienaguera". He recorded other hits like "La historia". Vallenato () is a popular folk music genre from Colombia. It primarily comes from its Caribbean region. ''Vallenato'' literally means "born in the valley". The valley influencing this name is located between the ''Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta'' and the '' Serranía de Perijá'' in north-east Colombia.
