Crush (rock Band)
Crush was an alternative rock band with East West Records from 1991 to 1993. Original members included singer-songwriter Michael Bramon, English guitarist-songwriter John Valentine Carruthers (formerly of Siouxsie and the Banshees), English drummer-songwriter Paul Ferguson (formerly of Killing Joke), and American bassist/backing vocalist/songwriter John Micco. Crush was previously known as Pleasurehead on Island Records from 1990-1991. During this time, with producer Mark Opitz, they recorded an (unreleased) album at Electric Lady Studios with bassisRobert Burke Warren Warren would leave before the album's completion. Bramon left Crush shortly before their 1993 release ''Crush'', and was replaced by singer Frederick Schreck whose lead vocals would appear on the record. Alternative Rock
Alternative rock (also known as alternative music, alt-rock or simply alternative) is a category of rock music that evolved from the independent music underground of the 1970s. Alternative rock acts achieved mainstream success in the 1990s with the likes of the grunge subgenre in the United States, and the Britpop and shoegaze subgenres in the United Kingdom and Ireland. During this period, many record labels were looking for "alternatives", as many Arena rock, corporate rock, hard rock, and glam metal acts from the 1980s were beginning to grow stale throughout the music industry. The emergence of Generation X as a Culture, cultural force in the 1990s also contributed greatly to the rise of alternative music. John Micco
John Micco, aka Micco, is an American bass player, back-up vocalist, and songwriter based in New York City. Micco is best known as a member of the alternative rock band Crush from 1991 to 1993. Crush also included Paul Ferguson from the British post-punk/industrial group Killing Joke, John Carruthers from the British rock bands Siouxsie and the Banshees and Clock DVA, and NJ's Fred Schreck from The Ancients. They were signed to Atlantic Records where they recorded their eponymous first album ''Crush'' . This album was recorded in Wales and produced by Pat Moran (Robert Plant, Iggy Pop, Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians). Micco's other major releases include Lloyd Cole's "Bad Vibes" produced by Adam Peters and mixed by Bob Clearmountain in 1993 and Robert Becker's "Shakeup" in 2001. The Orb
The Orb are an English electronic music group founded in 1988 by Alex Paterson and Jimmy Cauty. Known for their psychedelic sound, the Orb developed a cult following among clubbers "coming down" from drug-induced highs. Alex Paterson
Alex Paterson (also known as Dr Alex Paterson, born Duncan Alexander Robert Paterson; 15 October 1959) is an English musician and co-founder of ambient house group the Orb, in which he has worked since its inception. Life and work Paterson attended private boarding school Kingham Hill School in Oxfordshire between 1970 and 1979, at the same time as Killing Joke bassist Martin "Youth" Glover. Paterson was a roadie for Killing Joke in the 1980s and later worked in the A&R department of E.G. Records, to whom the band were signed. New York radio stations were a force driving his musical direction, especially the Chuck Chillout shows on 98.7 KISS FM. Electric Lady Studios
Electric Lady Studios is a recording studio in Greenwich Village, New York City. It was commissioned by rock musician Jimi Hendrix in 1968 and designed by architect John Storyk and audio engineer Eddie Kramer. It was completed by 1970. Hendrix spent only ten weeks recording in Electric Lady before Death of Jimi Hendrix, his death that year, but it quickly became a famed studio used by many top-selling recording artists from the 1970s onwards, including Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, and David Bowie. At the turn of the 21st century, Electric Lady served as a home for the innovative Soulquarians collective, but fell into financial hardship and disarray in the 2000s. Mark Opitz
Mark Opitz (born 1952) is an Australian record producer and audio engineer. He started his career with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in 1971. He has produced AC/DC, the Angels, Australian Crawl, Cold Chisel, Divinyls and INXS. He has won the ARIA Award for Producer of the Year in 1987 and 1988. He had previously won Best Australian Producer at the ''Countdown'' Awards for his work in 1980, 1982, 1985 and 1986. On 8 June 2020 he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for "significant service to the performing arts, particularly to music production." Paul Ferguson
Matthew Paul Ferguson (born 31 March 1958) is an English rock drummer, best known for his work in the post-punk/ industrial group Killing Joke and cult English punk band Pink Parts. Following a stint as the drummer with the London-based Matt Stagger Band in 1978, Ferguson became a founding member of Killing Joke and served as their drummer from 1979 to 1987. He was known as Big Paul Ferguson during this period. Ferguson is known for his tribal drum style. The last album he recorded with Killing Joke was the 1986 release '' Brighter than a Thousand Suns''. John Valentine Carruthers
John Valentine Carruthers (born 1958 in Wortley, West Riding of Yorkshire) is an English musician, guitarist, and composer. He is mainly known for being a member of Siouxsie and the Banshees from mid-1984 until early 1987. Early years In the early 1980s, he joined Sheffield band Clock DVA after the release of their second studio album. His first recording with Clock DVA was the EP '' Passions Still Aflame'' in 1982. It was followed by the album '' Advantage'' in 1983. Siouxsie and the Banshees He was then recruited by Siouxsie and the Banshees to be a full-time member of the group from May 1984.
