Cruce De Ocoa is an important junction and a small town in the Dominican Republic. Less than a thousand inhabitants live in the town. A major highway, DR-2, passes through and intersects with DR-Route 42 at Cruce De Ocoa. DR-2
DR-2 is the second numbered national highway in the Dominican Republic. Its common name is Carretera Sánchez in honor of Francisco del Rosario Sánchez, one of the founding fathers. In the city of Santo Domingo, it is known as Autopista 30 de Mayo. The highway serves as the main connection to the southwestern region of the country. The highway's eastern terminus is located in Santo Domingo and continues on a western route through until its end in Comendador for a total length of approximately 255 kilometers. The route is mainly a two-lane roadway even though it has been recently expanded from San Cristobal to Baní and has been largely replaced by the faster DR-6 route from Santo Domingo to San Cristobal. Due to its locality and heavy traffic DR-2 has been undergoing an expansion project to make it a two-lane expressway and allow better traffic flow. San José De Ocoa
San José de Ocoa, or simply Ocoa, is the capital of San José de Ocoa Province, San José de Ocoa province in the Dominican Republic. It is located in a valley in the southern region of the Cordillera Central, Dominican Republic, Central Cordillera mountain range. History The town was founded in 1805 by people from the southern town of Baní. The Canarian people, Spanish Canarian descendants were the first ethnic group to settle in San José de Ocoa, remaining a significant group in the town. Other families from Spain, Italy and France would soon follow. Blacks also would later settle in San José de Ocoa, most of them being Afro-Caribbean Cocolo descendants arriving from San Pedro de Macoris.
