Croats Of Montenegro
The Croats have a minority in Boka Kotorska (''Bay of Kotor''), a coastal region in Montenegro, the largest of their kind in Tivat. The three Municipalities of Montenegro, municipalities making up the Bay of Kotor (Tivat, Kotor and Herceg-Novi) include 4,519 Croats or 6.70%. They are also known as Bokelji, a common name for all inhabitants for of Boka Kotorska. Tivat is home to the minority political party Croatian Civic Initiative, and to the ''National Council of Croats in Montenegro''. Kotor is home to Croatian Civic Society of Montenegro. Religion Croats of Montenegro are mainly Catholic. According to the 2011 census, 5,527 (91.80%) Croats declared as such. Tivat Municipality
Tivat Municipality (Serbo-Croatian: Opština Tivat / Општина Тиват) is the smallest municipalities of Montenegro, municipality in Montenegro by area, situated in the Bay of Kotor. The center of the municipality is the eponymous town, Tivat. Besides the town, Tivat municipality encompasses the Vrmac mountain and a portion of Luštica peninsula, as well as Tivat field and a number of smaller coastal settlements. Location and tourism Tivat is located in the central part of the Bay of Kotor, south of mount Vrmac. Croatian Civic Initiative
The Croatian Civic Initiative ( Croatian/ Montenegrin: ''Hrvatska građanska inicijativa'', HGI, Montenegrin Cyrillic: Хрватска грађанска иницијатива, ХГИ) is a political party of the Croat minority in Montenegro. History The party was formed in 2002. It first participated in local elections in Tivat municipality that year, and established its headquarters in this town. HGI has best electoral results in Boka region, because the Croat minority is concentrated mostly in municipalities of Tivat and Kotor. Marija Vučinović was party president from 2006, until 2019. Tihomil Beritić
Tihomil Beritić (24 June 1919 – 6 April 1999) was a Croatian physician. Born in Herceg Novi, he graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Zagreb in 1943, where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1980. His research focus was hematology and toxicology. He spent most of his career at the Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health in Zagreb as the founder and head of the Occupational Disease Department. He was also a long-time editor of the professional journals ''Liječnički vjesnik'' and ''Arhiv za higijenu rada i toksikologiju''. Beritić was primarily engaged in toxicology research of heavy metals, especially lead poisoning. He studied the effects of lead poisoning on the nervous system and kidneys, as well as therapeutic treatments for lead poisoning. He proved that lead neuropathy is a motor neuron disease. Boka Kotorska
The Bay of Kotor ( sh-Latn-Cyrl, Boka kotorska, Бока которска, separator=" / ", ), also known as the Boka ( sh-Cyrl, Бока), is a winding bay of the Adriatic Sea in southwestern Montenegro and the region of Montenegro concentrated around the bay. Prčanj
Prčanj ( Montenegrin: Прчањ, ) is a small town along the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro. According to the 2011 census, the town has a population of 1128 people. It is located 5 kilometres west of Kotor, opposite to Dobrota and between the settlements of Muo and Stoliv. It was one of the most important maritime centers on the southern Adriatic throughout history. History The village of Perzagno (now Prčanj) was closely related to the nearby port of Cattaro (or ''Kotor''). While under the rule of the Venetian Republic, Perzagno gained fame in a rather unusual way. Krašići
Krašići ( Montenegrin: Крашићи) is a settlement in the Tivat Municipality in Montenegro, located on the Luštica peninsula in the Bay of Kotor. Geography Krašići is located on the Luštica peninsula, on the southern shore of the Bay of Tivat in the Bay of Kotor, between the villages of Tičići and Radovići. Cathedral Of Saint Tryphon
The Cathedral of Saint Tryphon ( sh-Latn-Cyrl, separator=/, Katedrala Svetog Tripuna, Катедрала Светог Трипуна) in Kotor, Montenegro, is one of two Roman Catholic cathedrals in Montenegro. Our Lady Of The Rocks
Our Lady of the Rocks is one of the two islets off the coast of Perast in the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro (the other being Sveti Đorđe island). It is an artificial island created by bulwark of rocks and by sinking old and seized ships loaded with rocks. The Catholic Church of Our Lady of the Rocks () is the largest building on the islet, and has a museum attached to it. There is also a small gift shop close to the church and a navigation light at the northern end of the islet. According to legend, the islet was made over the centuries by local seamen who kept an ancient oath after finding the icon of Madonna and Child on the rock in the sea on 22 July 1452.
