Creston (electoral District)
Creston was a provincial electoral district in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It first appeared on the hustings in the general election of 1924 and its last appearance was in the 1928 election. Following redistribution, the area was combined with the Nelson riding to create the new (and now current) riding of Nelson-Creston in the 1933 election. The 1924 British Columbia general election was the sixteenth general election in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of British Columbia. It was held to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. The election was called on May 10, 1924, and held on June 20, 1924. The new legislature met for the first time on November 3, 1924. The Liberal Party of British Columbia, Liberal Party was re-elected to its third term in government, falling just short of a majority government, majority in the legislature even though it won less than a third of the popular vote. The 1928 British Columbia general election was the seventeenth general election in the Province of British Columbia, Canada. It was held to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. The election was called on June 7, 1928, and held on July 18, 1928. The new legislature met for the first time on January 22, 1929. The British Columbia Conservative Party, Conservative Party defeated the governing Liberal Party of British Columbia, Liberal Party, taking over half the popular vote, and 35 of the 48 seats in the legislature. The Liberals' popular vote also increased significantly, but because of the disappearance of the Provincial Party of British Columbia, Provincial Party and the Labour Parties of British Columbia, Canadian Labour Party, which had won over 35% of the vote together in the previous election, the Liberals were defeated. Nelson (federal Electoral District)
Nelson was a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1917 to 1935. It covered northern Manitoba, Canada, a vast wilderness area dotted with small municipalities and First Nations in Canada, First Nations Indian reserve, reserves. The riding was created in 1914 from parts of Dauphin (Manitoba electoral district), Dauphin riding. When Nelson was abolished in 1933, its entire area was transferred into the new riding of Churchill (electoral district), Churchill. Nelson-Creston
Kootenay Central is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, Canada. It made its first appearance under the name Nelson-Creston in the general election of 1933 following a redistribution of the earlier Nelson and Creston ridings. Historically, the riding was consistently held by the "free enterprise" party of the era. Until 1952, this alternated between the BC Liberals and the Coalition, while after the election in 1952, Social Credit won every election until the BC NDP victory in 1972. Since 1972, the NDP has won all but two elections: in the 1986 election, Social Credit won the riding along with many others in the Interior and in 2001, prominent NDP Cabinet minister Corky Evans was defeated in an election that saw all but two NDP MLAs suffer defeat. 1933 British Columbia General Election
The 1933 British Columbia general election was the eighteenth general election in the Province of British Columbia, Canada. It was held to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia. The election was called on September 13, 1933, and held on November 2, 1933. The new legislature met for the first time on February 20, 1934. The Liberal Party won a majority government. The Official Opposition was formed by the social democratic Co-operative Commonwealth Federation, which was contesting its first election. Because of internal discord, the provincial executive of the Conservative Party decided not to contest the election officially. Instead, each local association was to act on its own. Some candidates ran as Independents, some as Independent Conservatives. Kootenays
The Kootenays or Kootenay ( ) is a region of southeastern British Columbia. It takes its name from the Kootenay River, which in turn was named for the Kutenai First Nations people. Boundaries The Kootenays are more or less defined by the Kootenay Land District, though some variation exists in terms of what areas are or are not a part.
