″Cradle to the Grave″ is a song by American hip hop recording artist 2Pac and his group, Thug Life, released on November 4, 1994 as a single from their one and only album, '' Thug Life, Volume I'' (1994). It is one of the few songs from the album that made it to the charts, peaking at number 25 on the ''Billboard'' Hot Rap Singles and number 91 on the ''Billboard'' Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks charts respectively. Music video The music video begins with 2Pac speaking alongside the chorus, and then begins his verse in alternating scenes, first in prison, being followed by a guard (with the rest of Thug Life tagging along right behind 2Pac), followed by a scene of him behind holographic bars (depicting that he's in a cell), and then outside in his neighborhood. Thug Life was an American hip hop group that consisted of Tupac, Big Syke, Mopreme, Macadoshis, and The Rated R. They released one album, 1994's '' Thug Life: Volume 1'', before disbanding in 1995. Etymology According to Tupac, the name originally started as an acronym: "The Hate U Give Little Infants Fucks Everybody". It represented the idea that the racism and marginalization experienced by black youth ends up negatively affecting society. G-funk Songs
G-funk, short for gangsta funk, is a sub-genre of gangsta rap that emerged from the West Coast scene in the late 1980s. The genre is heavily influenced by 1970s psychedelic funk (P-funk) sound of artists such as Parliament-Funkadelic. Characteristics G-funk (which uses funk with an artificially altered tempo) incorporates multi-layered and melodic synthesizers, slow hypnotic grooves, a deep bass, heavy use of the snare drum, background female vocals, the extensive sampling of P-Funk tunes, and a high-pitched portamento saw wave synthesizer lead. It is typically set at a tempo of anywhere between 80 to 100 BPM.
