County Meath
County Meath ( ; or simply , ) is a Counties of Ireland, county in the Eastern and Midland Region of Republic of Ireland, Ireland, within the Provinces of Ireland, province of Leinster. It is bordered by County Dublin to the southeast, County Louth, Louth to the northeast, County Kildare, Kildare to the south, Offaly to the southwest, Westmeath to the west, County Cavan, Cavan to the northwest, and County Monaghan, Monaghan to the north. To the east, Meath also borders the Irish Sea along a narrow strip between the rivers River Boyne, Boyne and Delvin River, Delvin, giving it the List of Irish counties by coastline, second shortest coastline of any county. John Osborne (barrister)
John Osborne (c.1630–1692) was an English barrister and law officer who spent much of his adult life in Ireland. He was the only surviving son of the celebrated writer Francis Osborne, and the subject of his father's most famous book, ''Advice to a Son'' (1656–1658). In Ireland, Osborne became Serjeant-at-law (Ireland), Prime Serjeant-at-law under King Charles II of England, Charles II. He was a determined opponent of King James II of England, James II, was removed from office by James's government, and was later proscribed by the Parliament of Ireland, Irish Parliament. After the Glorious Revolution he was restored to office as Serjeant-at-law. Thomas Taylour, 1st Marquess of Headfort (18 November 1757 – 24 October 1829), styled Viscount Headford from 1766 to 1795, and known as The Earl of Bective from 1795 to 1800, was an Irish peer and politician. Hamilton Gorges (1737 – 14 June 1802) was an Anglo-Irish politician. Gorges was the son of Richard Gorges and Elizabeth Fielding. In 1770 he was High Sheriff of Meath. Between 1792 and 1800, he sat in the Irish House of Commons as the Member of Parliament for County Meath. The 1761 Irish general election was the first general election to the Irish House of Commons in over thirty years, with the previous general election having taken place in 1727. Despite few constituencies hosting electoral contests, the election was significant due to it taking place in a time of rising political awareness within the Irish public, with many being drawn to the cause of patriotism. Background Unlike England, which had passed the Triennial Acts in 1694, thereby requiring elections every 3 years (and following 1716 every 7 years), Ireland had passed no similar pieces of legislation.
