Saint-Pol-de-Léon
Saint-Pol-de-Léon (; ) is a commune in the Finistère department in Brittany in north-western France, located on the coast. It is noted for its 13th-century cathedral on the site of the original founded by Saint Paul Aurelian in the 6th century. It has kept a unique architecture, such as Notre-Dame du Kreisker Chapel, an 80 m high chapel, which is the highest in Brittany. It was also the scene of a battle during the Breton War of Succession, where the Montfortists and their English allies defeated an army led by Charles of Blois. It is the largest vegetable producer and farmers market in Brittany responsible for 90% of French artichoke production and exports tens of thousands of vegetables to the whole of Europe every year. It is the seat of the canton of Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise. Geography Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise lies in the middle of the Pas-de-Calais department, on the river Ternoise. It lies 26 km southwest of Béthune, and 32 km west of Arras, the prefecture of Pas-de-Calais. Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise station is served by regional trains towards Lille, Arras, Béthune and Étaples. Hôtel Saint-Pol
The Hôtel Saint-Pol () was a royal residence begun in 1360 by Charles V of France on the ruins of a building constructed by Louis IX. It was used by Charles V and Charles VI. Located on the Right Bank, to the northwest of the Quartier de l'Arsenal in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, the residence's grounds stretched from the Quai des Célestins to the Rue Saint-Antoine, and from the Rue Saint-Paul to the Rue du Petit-Musc. It fell into disuse and ruin after the death of Isabeau de Bavière in 1435 and was demolished after Francis I of France sold it in parts at auction in 1543.Lorentz and Sandron 2006, pp. 90–91. The area around the Hôtel Saint-Pol is now the Marais neighborhood of Paris. The county of Saint-Pol (or ''Sint-Pols'') was a county around the French city of Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise (''Sint-Pols-aan-de-Ternas'') on the border of Artois and Picardy, formerly the county of Ternois. For a long time the county belonged to Flanders, and then from the early 11th century until the end of the 12th century it remained in the hands of the Campdavaine Family, before passing to the Châtillon family then the Luxembourg family. The best-known count was Louis, ''the constable of Saint-Pol''. He was extradited to Louis XI of France by Charles the Bold, and in 1475 Louis beheaded him for high treason. In 1493, Saint-Pol was transferred to the Holy Roman Empire by the Treaty of Senlis ; in 1537, Emperor Charles V destroyed the capital city.
