''Countryfile'' is a British television programme which airs weekly on BBC One and reports on rural, agricultural, and environmental issues. The programme is currently presented by John Craven, Adam Henson, Matt Baker, Tom Heap, Ellie Harrison, Paul Martin, Helen Skelton, Charlotte Smith, Steve Brown, Sean Fletcher, Anita Rani and Sammi Kinghorn. History The show was first broadcast on 24 July 1988 as ''Country File''. While farming remained a core ingredient, the programme held a much broader brief—to investigate rural issues and celebrate the beauty and diversity of the British countryside. Anne Brown, Ian Breach, Roger Tabor, Chris Baines and Caroline Hall fronted the programme for its first year under its original producer Mike Fitzgerald. Ellie Harrison (journalist)
Eleanor Harrison (born 17 November 1977) is an English television presenter, best known for co-presenting ''Countryfile'' from 2009 to 2023. Early life Born to a father who was a carpenter and a mother a midwife, Harrison grew up in rural Gloucestershire close to Cirencester, where the family grew their own fruit and vegetables and kept chickens. She was educated at Sir William Romney's School, Tetbury, and later Cirencester College for her A-levels. While at university, she was in a relationship with Nathan Hutchings, son of actor Geoffrey Hutchings. Through his father, Hutchings had contacts in Zimbabwe from the shooting of the Clint Eastwood film ''White Hunter Black Heart'', which allowed the couple to visit the country, where Harrison gained her interest in wildlife. Matt Baker
Matthew James Baker (born 23 December 1977) is a British television presenter. He co-presented the children's television show ''Blue Peter'' from 1999 until 2006, BBC One's '' Countryfile'' since 2009 and ''The One Show'' from 2011 to 2020, with Alex Jones. Early life Baker was born on 23 December 1977 at Easington in County Durham where his father ran a newsagent's shop, and his parents had a smallholding in the village. Helen Elizabeth Skelton (born 19 July 1983) is an English television presenter appearing regularly on BBC1's '' Morning Live''. Tom Heap (born 3 January 1966 in Hertford, Hertfordshire) is an English television and radio reporter and presenter best known for his contributions to the BBC One programme ''Countryfile'', the BBC Radio 4 programme ''Costing the Earth'' and '' The Climate Show'' on Sky News. Julia Michele Bradbury (born 24 July 1970) is an English journalist and television presenter, employed by the BBC and ITV, specialising in documentaries and consumer affairs. John Craven
John Raymond Craven (born 16 August 1940) is an English journalist and television presenter, best known for presenting the BBC programmes '' Newsround'', '' Countryfile'' and '' Beat the Brain''. Early life Craven was born in Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire, and educated at Leeds Modern School. Craven's father was held as a prisoner of war in Japan for three years during the Second World War. He left school aged 16, and began an apprenticeship at Yorkshire Copperworks, writing for the company magazine. Adam Henson
Adam John Lincoln Henson (born 8 January 1966) is an English farmer, author and television presenter. Early career Born on the farm he now works, Bemborough Farm near Guiting Power, Gloucestershire, he was educated at Cheltenham College and later at Westwood's Grammar School, Northleach. Henson did some work at the Chatsworth Estate, and gained an HND in Agriculture at Seale-Hayne Agricultural College in Newton Abbot, Devon, where he met his business partner and friend Duncan Andrews. After graduation, the pair travelled for over a year through Australia working on sheep and arable stations, then a kiwi plantation in New Zealand, before returning to plant tea in the Atherton Tablelands in Queensland. Margherita Taylor is an English TV and radio presenter. She is a freelancer with Global Group and currently presents on stations Smooth Radio and Classic FM. She studied media and communications at the University of Central England (now Birmingham City University), majoring in video production for her degree. The BBC Studios Natural History Unit (NHU) is a department of BBC Studios that produces television, radio and online content with a natural history or wildlife theme. Sammi Kinghorn
Samantha May Kinghorn (born 6 January 1996) is a British World Champion wheelchair racer and TV presenter. At the 2024 paralympics she won a gold medal. Personal history In December 2010 Kinghorn was crushed by snow and ice which fell from the roof at the family farm breaking her back. She had emergency surgery and spent five months in hospital. The injury to her spine left her paralysed from the waist down. Since then she uses a wheelchair for mobility. While in the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southern General Hospital her physiotherapist took her to Stoke Mandeville Stadium to take part in the WheelPower Inter Spinal Games where she was able to try out a variety of wheelchair sports, leading to her taking up wheelchair racing.
