Council Of Ministers Of The Isle Of Man
The Council of Ministers (; often abbreviated informally to "CoMin") is the principal executive organ of the Isle of Man Government. Its role is similar to, though not identical with, that of the Cabinet in the United Kingdom. Until 1990, its title was the Executive Council. The Executive Council, chaired by the Lieutenant Governor and including members of Tynwald, was established in 1949, and gradually thereafter became the effective government of the Island. The Lieutenant Governor ceased to chair the Executive Council in 1980, being replaced by a chairman elected by Tynwald, and the Council was reconstituted in 1985 to include the chairmen of the eight principal boards of Tynwald; in 1986, they were given the title ''Minister'' and the chairman was styled ''Chief Minister''.Constitution (Executive Council) (Amendment) Act 1986 In 1990, the Council was renamed the ''Council of Ministers''. Department Of Health And Social Care (Isle Of Man)
The Department of Health and Social Care () is the largest (by number of personnel and budget) of the seven departments of the Isle of Man Government. It was created on 1 April 2014 as a result of a merger of health and social care services from the former Department of Health and Department of Social Care. The intention to merge the two Departments was announced on 2 December 2013 as part of the Council of Ministers' plans to modernise ministerial government. The move was by and large a reversal of one element of the restructuring of the Isle of Man Government in April 2010 which saw the former Department of Health and Social Security split to form the Department of Health and the Department of Social Care. Christopher Thomas (Manx Politician)
Christopher Yancy Thomas (March 24, 1818 – February 11, 1879) was a politician and lawyer from Virginia. He served brief terms in the Virginia Senate, Virginia House and U.S. House of Representatives. Early and family life Born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, Thomas attended local schools as a child and went on to graduate from a private academy in 1838. Career Thomas read law and was admitted to the bar in 1844, commencing practice in Martinsville, Virginia. He served in the Confederate Virginia Senate from 1860 to 1864 and was member of the commission to settle the boundary line between Virginia and North Carolina. Lawrie Lee Hooper is a Welsh born Manx politician who is the leader of Liberal Vannin Party and former Minister for Health and Social Care. He has represented Ramsey in the House of Keys since 2016. Early life Hooper was born in Cardiff, Wales. He studied at Ramsey Grammar School and Keele University. The Treasury () of the Isle of Man is the finance department of the Isle of Man Government. It prepares the annual budget for the Government, and also handles taxation, customs and excise, economic affairs, information systems, internal audit, currency and the census in the Isle of Man. Biography Doctor Michelle Haywood trained as a research scientist and has had a career in education as both a teacher and a lecturer at Isle of Man College, before becoming the Director of Irish Sea Diving and Marine Services.
