David Costley
David Costley (24 August 18373 November 1923) was a Canadian bear hunter and farmer who was active in Nova Scotia. Early life David Trueman Costley was born in New Ross, Chester, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, Canada on 24 August 1837. Joseph Costley, his father, came from England, and his mother, Hannah Melvin, was a native of Nova Scotia. David had a brother, Amos, and a sister, Sarah. Career With a large family to support, David Costley farmed and trapped beaver, otter, mink, and fox for income. Bounties on dead animals were common for many years. Costley became active as a bear hunter and guide from 1852 until 1922. The skins from Costley's hunts in Blue Mountain were taken to buyers in Kentville, Kings County. Supplying black bear fur for the Queen's Coldstream Guards' bearskins brought David Costley into contact with Queen Victoria, who invited him to London in 1897 to show her appreciation. Edward Costley
Edward Costley (1794 – 18 April 1883) was a New Zealand philanthropist. Costley was born in Ireland to John and Anne Costley. Costley was known among the "old identities" of Auckland as a man of rather penurious and retiring habits, who had acquired property in the early days, which, with the growth of the city, had become of great value. Costley had arrived in Auckland around 1840, possibly coming on from Australia. He purchased property at a time when it was empty scrubland and as the town of Auckland grew he quietly expanded his landholdings. He never owned his own house preferring to board with friends, a married couple. On his deathbed he summoned his lawyer, and directed him to divide his wealth among the city charities, seven of these being named. The estate realised £93,000, which was divided between the Auckland Hospital, Old Men's Home, Sailors' Home, Auckland Institute, Costley Training Institute, Auckland Public Library, and the Parnell Orphan Home, each of w ...

James Costley
James Costley (Liverpool Q1 1862 – Q1 1931 in Blackburn) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Everton. James Costley, although from Merseyside, signed for Blackburn Olympic in 1879. Blackburn Olympic never played League Football and majored on the FA Cup. Their two successful seasons (and Costley was involved) were 1882–83 and 1883–84. In 1882–83 Blackburn Olympic reached the Final. The date was 31 March 1883 and the venue was Kennington Oval. Blackburn Olympic played the FA Cup holders, Old Etonians and beat them 2–1, Costley scoring Olympic's second and winning goal. Costley played as an inside forward. The following season, 1883–84, Olympic, as holders, took the defence of the Cup to the semi–final. The match was played at Trent Bridge on 1 March 1884 against Queen's Park (Glasgow).
