Copa Rio (international Tournament)
The Copa Rio ( English: Rio Cup) was an international club football tournament with teams from Europe and South America, having been held on two occasions, in 1951 and 1952, in Brazil. Both editions were organised and endorsed by the Brazilian Sports Confederation (Confederação Brasileira de Desportos), the then Brazilian FA and sports main body. The tournament is often regarded in Brazil as an official tournament, at least as far as the Brazilian clubs are concerned (since 1955, FIFA Statutes do not regard international club competitions endorsed uniquely by national football associations as being official). The name Copa Rio, Portuguese for ''Rio Cup'', was a homage to Rio de Janeiro City. Brazilian Sports Confederation
The Brazilian Sports Confederation (), also known by the acronym CBD, was the main sports confederation of Brazil, competent in the matter of tennis, sport of athletics, athletics, swimming (sport), swimming, water polo, handball, association football, football, and any sporting activity not belonging to a self-standing institution. Jules Rimet (; 14 October 1873 – 16 October 1956) was a French football administrator who was the 3rd President of FIFA, serving from 1921 to 1954. He is FIFA's longest-serving president, in office for 33 years. He also served as the president of the French Football Federation from 1919 to 1942, and again from 1944 to 1949. On Rimet's initiative, the first FIFA World Cup was held in 1930. The Jules Rimet Trophy was named in his honour. He also founded French club Red Star, known as Red Star Club Français upon its creation in 1897. The Brazilian Football Confederation (, CBF) is the governing body of football in Brazil. It was founded on Monday, 8 June 1914, as , and renamed Confederação Brasileira de Desportos in 1916. The football confederation, as known today, separated from other sports associations on 24 September 1979. The CBF has its headquarters in Rio de Janeiro. The confederation owns a training center, named Granja Comary, located in Teresópolis. Mário Rodrigues Filho, better known as Mário Filho (3 June 1908 – 17 September 1966), was a Brazilian journalist and writer. Born in the Pernambuco state capital Recife, Filho moved to Rio de Janeiro while still a child, in 1916. His father, Mário Rodrigues, owned the newspaper "A Manhã" ().
