George Gibson Coote (August 18, 1880 – November 24, 1959) was a Canadian accountant, bank manager, farmer, and federal politician. Political career Coote was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1921 Canadian federal election as a Progressive Party of Canada candidate in the Macleod electoral district. He defeated 3 other candidates in a landslide. Coote ran for re-election in the 1925 Canadian federal election he won a hotly contested election against former Conservative Member of Parliament John Herron and Alberta MLA Thomas Milnes. Less than a year later he defended his incumbency after the governing coalition fell apart in the 1926 Canadian federal election. He was elected defeating John Herron increasing his plurality. Ron Coote
Ronald Joseph Coote (born 1944) is an Australian former rugby league player. His club career was played with South Sydney and the Eastern Suburbs Roosters, with both of whom he won premierships, and he played 23 times for Australia. He is considered one of the nation's finest footballers of the 20th century, and was inducted as the 14th Immortal in 2024. The Ron Coote Cup, contested annually by South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Sydney Roosters is named in his honour - his entire club career having been played at these two clubs. Early life and playing style Born in Kingsford, New South Wales in 1944 Coote was a South Sydney junior and the son of 1930s Easts forward Jack Coote. Roderic Coote
Roderic Norman Coote OBE (13 April 19156 July 2000) was an Anglican bishop who held three different posts in an ecclesiastical career spanning half a century. Coote was the son of Commander Bernard Trotter Coote and Grace Harriet Robinson, daughter of the Very Reverend John Joseph Robinson. He was the grandson of Sir Algernon Coote, 12th Baronet, Lord-Lieutenant of Queen's County (see Coote baronets). Educated at Trinity College, Dublin and ordained in 1939, he began his career with a curacy at ''St Bartholomew's, Dublin''. After a decade as a missionary priest in The Gambia he became diocesan bishop ( Bishop of Gambia and the Rio Pongas) in 1951. Translated to Fulham in 1957, his final appointment was a sideways move to Bishop of Colchester nine years later. He became an area bishop with the creation of the Chelmsford area scheme 1983. Robert Coote (4 February 1909 – 26 November 1982) was an English actor. He played aristocrats or British military types in many films, and created the role of Colonel Hugh Pickering in the long-running original Broadway production of ''My Fair Lady''. Biography Coote was born in London and educated at Hurstpierpoint College in Sussex. He began his stage career at the age of 16, performing in Britain, South Africa, and Australia before arriving in Hollywood in the late 1930s. He played a succession of pompous British types in supporting roles, including a brief but memorable turn as Sgt. Bertie Higginbotham in '' Gunga Din'' (1939). His acting career was interrupted by his service as a squadron leader in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II. Robert Coote (Royal Navy Officer)
Admiral Robert Coote (1 June 1820 – 17 March 1898) was a Royal Navy officer who went on to be Commander-in-Chief, China Station. Background Coote was a younger son of Sir Charles Coote, 9th Baronet, by Caroline Whaley, daughter of John Whaley, of Whaley Abbey, County Wicklow. Naval career Educated at Eton College, Coote joined the Royal Navy in 1833 and served on the coast of Syria in 1840. He was made commander of the sloop HMS ''Volcano'' in 1851 while serving in the West Africa Squadron. Promoted to captain in 1854, he commanded HMS ''Victory'' from 1860, HMS ''Gibraltar'' from 1864 and HMS ''Arethusa'' from 1867. He became Commander-in-Chief, Queenstown in 1874 and Commander-in-Chief, China in 1878. He retired in 1885. He is buried in Brookwood Cemetery in Woking Cemetery. Kenneth Alexander Coote (19 May 1928 – 2 August 2003) was an English footballer. He is best remembered for his 14 years as a full back and utility player with Brentford, for whom he tops the all-time appearances list with 559 and was also captain of the club. In 2013, Coote placed second in a Football League 125th Anniversary poll of Brentford's best ever captains and he is a member of the club's Hall of Fame. John Methuen Coote (13 March 1878 – 4 October 1967) was a British colonial administrator who served in the East Africa Protectorate. He is known for a stand-off with the Belgians over the location of the border between the Belgian Congo and the British territories. Family John Methuen Coote was born on 13 March 1878 in Cambridge, England. His parents were Sir Algernon Charles Plumptre Coote, 12th Baronet, and Jean Trotter. On 24 September 1912 he married Leonore Wray Trench, daughter of John Townsend Trench and Leonora Wray. Their children were Joanna Frances Coote (1913–2003) and Diana Jean Coote (1914–2004).
