Coode Street Jetty
Coode Street Jetty is located in South Perth in Western Australia. The jetty is on the southern shore of the Swan River in the section known as Perth Water. History An earlier jetty existed, also with an adjacent pool, before the construction of a newer jetty along the altered shore-line. It was a timetabled stop for the Swan River Ferry Company from at least 1916 for services to South Perth. One of the ferries which worked this route, the '' Valdura'', is now preserved. Swan River Ferry Company
The Swan River Ferry Company (also traded as Swan River Ferries) was a major operator of ferry services on the Swan River in Perth, Western Australia from its establishment in 1897 to its end in 1949. History The company was founded in 1897 by Rowland Pennington and Fred Bailey as a public company named the River Ferry Company, using the vessels ''Mary Queen'' and ''Gladys'', with services between Mends Street and Coode Street jetties, replacing an earlier irregular service managed by WF Tubbs, but the venture failed. In 1904 however, a boat hire and manufacturing business, Sutton & Olson, founded by shipwrights Harry Sutton), and John Olsen, both of Scandinavian heritage, took over the company with a consistent service created with the inaugural vessel ''Valkyrie''. Valdura
MV ''Valdura'' (later named ''Penguin'') is a preserved small ferry used on the Swan river and in Fremantle Harbour between 1912 and 1967. It is the only surviving "Val-boat" class ferry, which were one of the main types of ferry used on the Swan river between 1904 and 1949 when ferry services were the primary mode of transport on the river. It is managed by the Public Transport Authority (PTA), a state government organisation, and consists of train, bus and ferry services. Barrack Street Jetty
Barrack Street Jetty is an entertainment precinct and transport hub on the edge of Perth Water in the Perth central business district, Western Australia. Located at the end of Barrack Street. it comprises five jetties with a bars, cafes and restaurants along the foreshore. The first jetty built on the site opened as King Cole's Jetty, named after Henry LCole, the first chairman of the Perth City Council. Today five jetties exist. As part of the Elizabeth Quay project, Barrack Street Jetty was reconfigured with jetties 1 and 5 extended and jetty 6 demolished. In April 2024, the Government of Western Australia announced that jetty 1 would be demolished and rebuilt. Mends Street Jetty
Mends Street Jetty is located in South Perth in Western Australia. Situated at the southern shore of the Swan River in the section known as Perth Water, the ferry service is primarily used for accessing the Perth Zoo from the Perth central business district while also being used for commuters. History It is not known when the first jetty at Mends Street was built, however, with the opening of the Perth Zoo in October 1898 it was recognised that a regular cross-river ferry service was needed. Therefore, at about that time, the existing jetty was widened to and an existing service that ran between William Street and Queen Street Jetty was extended to Mends Street. The service was run by Joseph Charles, who operated the ''Queen'' (later ''Empress'') and the ''Princess''.
