Constituencies Of Mauritius
Constituencies of Mauritius are the electoral boundaries within the Republic of Mauritius. They are also commonly referred to as ''Circonscriptions'' amongst the locals. The country follows the Westminster system and elects 60 members of parliament for a term of 5 years. There are in all 21 Constituencies in the republic, each of them returning 3 members with the exception of Constituency n°21, which returns only 2 members. The Constitution stipulates that there shall be 20 constituencies and one created specially for the Rodrigues island. Those electoral boundaries are considered to be the main pillars for elections as they allow members of parliament to be elected and thus to form the government. Militant Socialist Movement
The Militant Socialist Movement (, MSM) is a centre-left political party in Mauritius. It was the single largest political party in the National Assembly of Mauritius, having won 42 of the 69 seats in the 2019 general elections; however, following the 2024 election, it only possesses one seat. It also holds the largest number of seats in all city/town councils through the country with 60 councillors out of 120. The party tends to be more popular amongst Indo-Mauritians. The MSM is one of the 4 main political parties in the country; the others being the Labour Party or ''Parti Travailliste'' (PTr), Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM) and Parti Mauricien Social Démocrate (PMSD). Satya Veyash Faugoo (born सत्य वेयश फौगू, 1 April 1961), more commonly known as Satish Faugoo, is a Mauritian politician. Education and legal career He was educated at Thames Valley University, London where he obtained his LLB and was called to the bar in 1987, belonging to the Lincoln's Inn of United Kingdom. Sangeet Fowdar
Sangeet Fowdar FCCA, MP (born 5 September 1957) is a Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and Mauritian politician, serving as a member of parliament for Grand Baie & Poudre d'Or, Mauritius. He is a member of the Public Accounts Committee and the parliamentary representative for Mauritius at the World Trade Organization. Fowdar previously served as the Ministry of Training, Skills, Development, Productivity and External Communications of Mauritius in the cabinet of Sir Anerood Jugnauth from 2000 to 2003 and Paul Berenger from 2003 to 2005. Anil Bachoo
Anil Kumar Bachoo (born आनिल कुमार बचू on 6 September 1953) and also known as ''Anil Baichoo'' is a Mauritian politician. Teaching career Anil Bachoo obtained a PGCE from the Mauritius College and worked as a secondary school teacher from 1972 to 1978. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from India and then taught Hinduism at Eastern College located in Flacq. From 1995 to 2000, as a break from active politics, he was the deputy rector of Universal College, a secondary school located in the rural district of Rivière du Rempart. Ashok Jugnauth
Ashock Kumar Jugnauth, also known as Ashok Jugnauth (born 3 January 1951) is a Mauritian politician and former Member of Parliament. Early life and career Jugnauth was born at Palma, Quatre Bornes. He is the younger half-brother of Sir Anerood Jugnauth. He studied law and practised as a barrister in Mauritius. Political career Ashock became an active member of the Militant Socialist Movement (MSM) and in 1991 he was elected for the first time to the Legislative Assembly as an MSM-MMM politician. Moka
Moka () is a village in Mauritius located mainly in the Moka District. The western part of the village lies in the Plaines Wilhems District. Since 1967 it forms part of Constituency No. 8 Quartier Militaire and Moka. The village is administered by the Moka Village Council under the aegis of the Moka District Council. According to the census made by Statistics Mauritius in 2011, the population was at 8,846. The elevation is 203 meters and can be up to 425 meters in some places. Moka is directly on the other side of the Moka Range from Port Louis. The village is close to the mountain Le Pouce and the town Beau-Bassin Rose-Hill. Quartier Militaire is a village in the centre of Mauritius, found in the Moka District. It houses the region's District Council. Sir Anerood Jugnauth
Sir Anerood Jugnauth, GCSK, (29 March 1930 – 3 June 2021) was a Mauritian statesman, politician and barrister who served both as President and Prime Minister of Mauritius. He was Member of Parliament for Piton & Riviere Du Rempart. The central figure of Mauritian politics in the 1980s and early 1990s, he was Leader of the Opposition from 1976 to 1982. He served four consecutive terms as prime minister from 1982 to 1995 and again from 2000 to 2003. He was then elected as President from 2003 to 2012. Navinchandra Ramgoolam (born 14 July 1947) is a Mauritian politician and physician who is the current prime minister of Mauritius, serving since 2024.
