The Conservatorio Nicolini is a music school, located on via Santa Franca #35 in the town of Piacenza, region of Emilia Romagna, Italy. History The site of the conservatory had been since the 16th century, home to Santa Franca, a cistercian convent of nuns. A church stood where now the adjacent Teatro Filodrammatici, Piacenza, Teatro Filodrammatici stands. The convent and church were suppressed by the Napoleonic government, and the convent for the next few decades had various secular uses, including as barracks. In 1839 the ''Scuola di Musica di Piacenza'' was founded. Initially it was housed at the convent of Sant'Agostino, Piacenza, Santa'Agostino; in 1865, it was moved to this site. In 1900 it separated itself from the Municipal Theater authority and in 1933, it became a ''Liceo Musicale'' named after the Piacenzan composer Giuseppe Nicolini (composer), Giuseppe Nicolini. The Teatro Filodrammatici of Piacenza is an Art Nouveau-style theater located at Via Santa Franca #33 in Piacenza, Italy. Description The site originally housed the Church and part of the Cistercian Monastery of Santa Franca, built in 1549. The church was dedicated to Saint Franca and housed her relics. Sant'Agostino, Piacenza
Sant'Agostino is a Renaissance style, former Roman Catholic church, located at the intersection of the Avenue Farnese and via Giordani in Piacenza, region of Emilia Romagna, Italy. History The adjacent convent was built during 1569-1573 by the Canons Regular of the Lateran, but the church building was not completed till 1608. The Lateransi had been in Piacenza since 1431, but had been evicted by the Pier Luigi Farnese from their prior holdings at the Monastery of San Marco. The neoclassical façade of the church was completed only in 1792 by Camillo Morigia. The facade recalls the Roman triumphal arches, with statues and a pediment decorated with angels and garlands. At the end of the 18th-century, the monastery came to be used as a military hospital. In 1798, the contents of this wealthy convent were auctioned to raise money to pay Napoleonic demands.
