Conquerors Trilogy
The ''Conquerors trilogy'' is a trilogy of science fiction novels by American writer Timothy Zahn, published between 1994 and 1996. Set in a space opera future, the trilogy is concerned with a failed First contact (science fiction), first contact that leads to an interstellar war between humanity and an alien race, the Zhirrzh (nicknamed by humans "the Conquerors"). Meanwhile, other alien races try to take advantage of the conflict between the two powers. ''Conquerors Pride'' ''Conquerors' Pride'', published in 1994, is the first novel in the series. The book begins with the invasion of unknown aliens who, after a brutally efficient battle, take with them a prisoner: Commander Pheylan Cavanagh. Timothy Zahn
Timothy Zahn (born 1951) is an American writer of science fiction and fantasy. He is known best for his prolific collection of ''Star Wars'' List of Star Wars books, books, chiefly the Thrawn trilogy, ''Thrawn'' trilogy, and has published several other series of sci-fi and fantasy novels of his own original creation, in addition to many works of short fiction. Early life and education Zahn grew up in Lombard, Illinois, and attended Glenbard East High School in Lombard. He has been a fan of sci-fi since he was a child. He attended Michigan State University, before working towards a doctorate in physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, University of Illinois. Space opera is a subgenre of science fiction that emphasizes Space warfare in science fiction, space warfare, with use of melodramatic, risk-taking space adventures, relationships, and chivalric romance. First Contact (science Fiction)
First contact is a common theme in science fiction about the first meeting between humans and extraterrestrial life, or of any sentient species' first encounter with another one, given they are from different planets or natural satellites. It is closely related to the anthropological idea of first contact. Popularized by the 1897 book '' The War of the Worlds'' by H. G. Wells, the concept was commonly used throughout the 1950s and 60s, often as an allegory for Soviet infiltration and invasion. Interstellar War
An interstellar war is a hypothetical space war between combatants from different planetary systems. The concept provides a common plot device in science fiction, especially in the space opera subgenre. In contrast, the term ''intergalactic war'' refers to war between combatants from different galaxies, and ''interplanetary war'' refers to war between combatants from different planets of the same planetary system.
