Christian Rudolph Wilhelm Wiedemann
Christian Rudolph Wilhelm Wiedemann (7 December 1770 – 31 December 1840) was a German physician, historian, naturalist and entomologist. He is best known for his studies of world Diptera, but he also studied Hymenoptera and Coleoptera, although far less expertly. Biography Wiedemann’s father, Conrad Eberhard Wiedemann (1722–1804) was an art dealer and his mother, Dorothea Frederike (née Raspe) (1741–1804) was the daughter of an accountant in the Royal Mining Service and also interested in the arts. Dolichopodidae
Dolichopodidae, the long-legged flies, are a large, cosmopolitan family of true flies with more than 8,000 described species in about 250 genera. The genus '' Dolichopus'' is the most speciose, with some 600 species. Dolichopodidae generally are small flies with large, prominent eyes and a metallic cast to their appearance, though there is considerable variation among the species. Most have long legs, though some do not. In many species, the males have unusually large genitalia which are taxonomically useful in identifying species. Most adults are predatory on other small animals, though some may scavenge or act as kleptoparasites of spiders or other predators. Description Dolichopodidae are a family of flies ranging in size from minute to medium-sized (1mm to 9mm). They have characteristically long and slender legs, though their leg length is not as striking as in families such as the Tipulidae. Their posture often is stilt-like standing high on their legs, with the body ...

Sciapodinae
Sciapodinae is a subfamily of fly, flies in the family Dolichopodidae. Members of the subfamily possess several ancestral characteristics of the family, such as branched vein M1+2 in the wings (though M2 is absent or reduced in Mesorhagini) and a peduncle (anatomy), pedunculate hypopygium. They also typically have a deeply excavated vertex, giving their heads the appearance of a dumbbell when viewed from the front. Members of Sciapodinae are most diverse in South America, sub-Saharan Africa, the Indian subcontinent, South-east Asia and Australasia. The subfamily is suggested to have originated during the Early Cretaceous on the supercontinent Gondwana, which is supported by vicariant distributions in the genera ''Heteropsilopus'', ''Condylostylus'' and ''Parentia''. Genera * Tribe Mesorhagini Bickel, 1994 ** ''Amesorhaga'' Bickel, 1994 ** ''Mesorhaga'' Ignaz Rudolph Schiner, Schiner, 1868 ** ''Negrobovia'' Bickel, 1994 * Tribe Sciapodini Theodor Becker, Becker, 1917 ** ''Bickelia ...
