Groupe Canal+ is a French mass media company. It is owned and controlled by Vivendi and has a film library in excess of 5,000 films. Vivendi has sold some parts of Canal+ to private investors which are still using the name of Canal+. It is headquartered in Issy-les-Moulineaux, in the suburbs of Paris. The ''Wall Street Journal'' described Canal+ as "the French film industry's biggest financial backer, beloved by French cineastes". It is a major source of finance for domestic film production, participating in the financing of the vast majority of films produced in France. It also has its own subsidiary companies with direct involvement in film production. Comédie+
Comédie+ (formerly Comédie!) is a French cable network showing humorous programs since 1997. It bears some resemblance to Comedy Central; even the ''comédie'' word in the name is used in the very broad American meaning. It is directed by Dominique Farrugia, a former member of the Les Nuls comedy team. An often-shown program is La Grosse Emission which helped popularize the comedians troupe named Les Robins des Bois (The Robinhoods). History Comédie! began its broadcasts on 29 November 1997 on Canal Satellite and then on cable. The channel is dedicated to the actor and comedian Bruno Carette from the troupe Les Nuls, who died in 1989. Teletoon+ (stylised as teleToON+; formerly Minimax and ZigZap) is a Polish television channel owned and operated by the Canal+ Group through ITI Neovision SA, available on Platforma Canal+. The channel aims at young people in the age group of 10–16 years, carrying various animated films and television series. History After the original Minimax channel was replaced by Fox Kids in Spain on 15 November 1998, the current Central European iteration of Minimax began on 16 April 1999 when the channel was launched in Poland on Cyfra+. On 16 October 2004, the channel was renamed to ZigZap. Its name is a portmanteau of " télévision" and "cartoon". As of 2013, along with its English language counterpart Teletoon, it is available in over 7.3 million Canadian households. Piwi (or PIWI) genes were identified as gene regulation, regulatory proteins responsible for stem cell and germ cell cell differentiation, differentiation. Piwi is an abbreviation of P element, P-element Induced WImpy testis in ''Drosophila melanogaster, Drosophila''. Canals or artificial waterways are waterways or engineered channels built for drainage management (e.g. flood control and irrigation) or for conveyancing water transport vehicles (e.g. water taxi). Canal+ Séries is a French TV channel devoted to programming series. It is part of the ''Les Chaînes Canal+'' or the ''Ciné-Séries'' package of Canal+. The channel does not broadcast advertising. The channel broadcasts many shows a few days after the American broadcasting (in English with French subtitles), but it also broadcasts series dubbed in French or French series. The channel also broadcasts series from other Canal+ channels (''Suburgatory'', '' The Returned'', etc. ...). The OCS channels have an exclusive contract with HBO, Canal+ Séries broadcasts rerun of HBO series. But in 2017, OCS contract with HBO became stricter, giving the complete exclusivity to OCS. Canal+ Family was a French TV channel devoted to the broadcast of family programming. It is part of the "Les Chaînes Canal+" and the "Famille" package from Canal+. Canal+ Family had an African version, on channel 6 from Canal+ Afrique. History Canal+ Family was launched on 27 October 2007 as a complement to Canal+. The channel began broadcasting in High Definition (HD) on 12 October 2010. In October 2010, Canal+ SA applied to the CSA to obtain a frequency for the channel on the TNT but this application was rejected on 14 December in favor of the string CFoot. On 30 August 2021, Canal+ Family closed in Metropolitan France, to be replaced by Canal+ Kids and Canal+ Docs on 9 September, focusing on on-demand content.
