Mattias Gardell
Hans Bertil Mattias Gardell (born 10 August 1959) is a Swedish historian and scholar of comparative religion. In March 2006 he was appointed of the Nathan Söderblom Chair of Comparative Religion at Uppsala University, Sweden. He received the Lenin Award in 2009. Early life and education Mattias Gardell was born in Solna, Stockholm County, Sweden. He dropped out of high school and lived many years later as a researcher among black and white racist representatives in the United States. He earned a PhD in the history of religions at Stockholm University in 1995. His 1995 dissertation on Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam was published in both British and American editions. A nithing pole (), sometimes normalized as ''nithstang'' or ''nidstang'', was a pole used for cursing an enemy in Germanic pagan tradition ( nīþ, nith). Historical use A nithing pole consisted of a long, wooden pole with a recently cut horse head at the end, and at times with the skin of the horse laid over the pole. The nithing pole was directed towards the enemy and target of the curse. The curse could be carved in runes on the pole. The Forn Siðr — Ásatrú and Vanatrú Association in Denmark ( Danish: ''Forn Siðr — Asa- og Vanetrosamfundet i Danmark'') is a Danish nationwide religious organisation of the followers of Forn Siðr (Ásatrú and Vanatrú), the contemporary revival of Norse paganism and culture. History The Forn Siðr association was established on 15 November 1997. The organisation is non- proselytistic and apolitical. It was registered as a religious society by the ''Kirkeministeriet'' on 6 November 2003.
