The commissioner of Yukon () is the representative of the Government of Canada in the Canadian federal territory of Yukon. The commissioner is appointed by the federal government and, in contrast to the governor general of Canada or the Lieutenant governor (Canada), lieutenant governors of the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian provinces, is not a viceroy and therefore not a direct representative of the Monarchy of Canada, Canadian monarch in the territory ''eo ipso''. Adeline Kh'ayàdê Webber is a Canadian politician, currently serving as commissioner of Yukon, since May 31, 2023. She is a member of the Teslin Tlingit First Nation and Kukhhittan Clan. Webber has worked in the federal public service and has been extensively involved with land claims, First Nation self-government agreements, and Indigenous women’s rights in the territory. As the founder and former President of the Whitehorse Aboriginal Women’s Circle and as the Yukon District Director for the Public Service Commission of Canada, Webber's continued work in employment and training for First Nations people has been implemented through several women’s leadership-training courses, as well as the Northern Careers Program. Henry William Newlands
Henry William Newlands (March 19, 1862 – August 9, 1954) was a Canadian politician and lawyer, who served as the fourth lieutenant governor of Saskatchewan, 1921 to 1931. Biography Born in March 1862 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Henry William Newlands was the son of James and Henrietta Newlands, and was educated in Halifax. Newlands was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1883, after which he would go on to have an important role in the domain of law. That same year, he moved to Western Canada, residing briefly in Winnipeg. In 1885, Newlands moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan where he practiced law. He also served as inspector of land titles offices in the Northwest Territories as well as law adviser to the Yukon Executive Council. The position of Minister of Mines and Resources was a cabinet portfolio in Canada from 1936 to 1950. The mines portfolio had previously been that of the Minister of Mines, which was a portfolio adjunct to other ministries such as Inland Revenue and Indian Affairs. Upon their abolition, the responsibilities belonging to the offices of Minister of Immigration and Colonization, Minister of the Interior, Minister of Mines, and Superintendent-General of Indian Affairs were combined into the office of Minister of Mines and Resources, created by Statute 1 Edw. Minister Of The Interior (Canada)
The Minister of the Interior was the member of the Canadian Cabinet who oversaw the Department of the Interior, which was responsible for federal land management, immigration, Indian affairs, and natural-resources extraction. The position was created in 1873 by Statute 36 Victoria, c. 4, to replace the Secretary of State for the Provinces. The Act designated the Minister as ''ex officio'' the Superintendent-General of Indian Affairs. From 30 March 1912 to 9 February 1913, and from 31 December 1919 to 6 August 1930, the Minister of the Interior was also designated ''ex officio'' the Minister of Mines. In 1917 the responsibility for passports was transferred to the Minister of Immigration and Colonization. George Black (Canadian Politician)
George Black (April 10, 1873 – August 23, 1965) was a Canadian politician and Yukon government administrator. He served as Yukon MP from 1921 to 1935 and 1940 to 1949. He went to Yukon in 1898 during the Gold Rush, accompanied by his older sister. He prospected and found gold, making a fortune but then losing it when a flood swept away his claim. He then established a law practice in Dawson City. He was elected to the Yukon Territorial Council in 1905. He ran for the House of Commons of Canada in the 1908 federal election but was defeated. In the 1911 federal election he was H.H. Stevens' campaign manager, and was rewarded by the government of Robert Laird Borden by being appointed to the position of Commissioner of the Yukon. Alexander Henderson (Canadian Politician)
Alexander Henderson, (March 13, 1860 – December 13, 1940) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in British Columbia and Yukon. He represented New Westminster City in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 1898 to 1900. Henderson served as the sixth commissioner of Yukon from 1907 to 1911. Biography He was born in Oshawa, Canada West, the son of Alexander Henderson, and was educated there, at the University of Toronto and at Osgoode Hall. Henderson was called to the Ontario bar in 1889 and the British Columbia bar in 1892. Henderson practised law in Oshawa until 1891 when he moved to New Westminster, British Columbia. William Wallace Burns McInnes (April 8, 1871 – August 4, 1954) was a Canadian politician, lawyer and served as the fifth commissioner of Yukon. Born in Dresden, Ontario, the son of Thomas Robert McInnes, McInnes entered the University of Toronto at the age of 14 and graduated in 1889, the youngest graduate to that date. After studying at Osgoode Hall, he was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1893 and practiced law in Nanaimo and Vancouver. A member of the Liberal Party of Canada, McInnes won the federal constituency of Vancouver in 1896 and sat in the House of Commons of Canada in Ottawa.
