Coming Home (2018 Film)
''Coming Home'' (Spanish language, Spanish title: ''Volviendo a casa'') is a 2018 Cinema of Argentina, Argentine film directed and written by Ricardo Preve. Defined by Preve as a docufiction production, ''Coming Home'' is based on the story of Carlo Acefalo, an Italian sailor who died in a desert island during World War II and whose remains were repatriated to his native country in 2018. The film had a successful run at international festivals, winning awards and nominations. Plot During World War II, the Italian submarine Macalle was shipwrecked in the Red Sea, near the coast of Sudan. 45 crew members ended up on a deserted island. NCO Carlo Acefalo died on the island, being buried by his mates there. Nearly 80 years later, a team arrives at the site and rescues Carlo's remains, taking them back to his home village, Castiglione Falletto, for a funeral ceremony attended by almost the entire village. Ricardo Preve
Ricardo Preve (born October 24, 1957, in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine filmmaker, photographer, and activist. Preve began his film career in the early 2000s as an associate producer on some documentaries. Since then, he has worked as a director, producer or scriptwriter in nearly thirty productions for film and television, including ''The Patagonian Bones'' (2015), ''Coming Home (2019 film), Coming Home'' (2019), ''From Sudan to Argentina'' (2022) and ''Sometime, Somewhere'' (2023), which have won awards and recognition at international festivals. ARA ''San Juan'' (S-42) was a diesel-electric submarine in service with the Submarine Force of the Argentine Navy from 1985 to 2017. It was built in West Germany, entering service on 19 November 1985, and underwent a mid-life update from 2008 to 2013. On 15 November 2017, ''San Juan'' went missing with 44 crewmen during a routine patrol in the South Atlantic off Patagonia. She was believed to have suffered an electrical malfunction, and a multi-nation search operation was mounted. Within hours of ''San Juan''s last transmission, an acoustic anomaly consistent with an implosion was detected in the vicinity of the vessel's last known location.
