The Columbus, Georgia, Columbus–Auburn, Alabama, Auburn–Opelika, Alabama, Opelika, Georgia (U.S. state), GA–Alabama, AL Combined Statistical Area is a trading and marketing area made up of six counties in Georgia and two in Alabama. The statistical area includes two United States metropolitan area, metropolitan areas: the Columbus, Georgia metropolitan area, Columbus metropolitan area and the Auburn, Alabama metropolitan area, Auburn–Opelika metropolitan area. Combined Statistical Area
Combined statistical area (CSA) is a United States Office of Management and Budget (OMB) term for a combination of adjacent metropolitan (MSA) and micropolitan statistical areas (µSA) across the 50 US states and the territory of Puerto Rico that can demonstrate economic or social linkage. CSAs were first designated in 2003. The OMB defines a CSA as consisting of various combinations of adjacent metropolitan and micropolitan areas with economic ties measured by commuting patterns. These areas that combine retain their own designations as metropolitan or micropolitan statistical areas within the larger combined statistical area. The primary distinguishing factor between a CSA and an MSA/µSA is that the social and economic ties between the individual MSAs/µSAs within a CSA are at lower levels than between the counties within an MSA. Muscogee County, Georgia
Muscogee County is a county located on the central western border of the U.S. state of Georgia; its western border with the state of Alabama is formed by the Chattahoochee River. As of the 2020 census, the population was 206,922. Its county seat and only city is Columbus, with which it has been a consolidated city-county since the beginning of 1971. Hurtsboro, Alabama
Hurtsboro is a town in Russell County, Alabama, United States. At the 2010 census the population was 553, down from 592 in 2000. It was founded in 1857 as Hurtsville and named for Joel Hurt, Sr. (whose son, Joel Hurt, was an important developer of Atlanta, Georgia). A railroad spur from Columbus, Georgia was completed the next year. It was incorporated in 1872 and in 1883 the town name was changed to Hurtsboro. Gold Hill, also known as Goldhill, Gold Mine, or Gold Ridge, is an unincorporated community north-centrally located in Lee County, Alabama, United States, just a few hundred feet south of the Chambers County line. Glenville (also spelled Glennville) is an unincorporated community in Russell County, Alabama, United States which used to be in Barbour County. During the Civil War, Company "H" of the 15th Regiment Alabama Infantry was raised from Barbour and Dale counties and called the "Glenville Guards". The Glennville Historic District, containing the antebellum core of the community, is a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Beauregard, Alabama
Beauregard is an unincorporated community located in central Lee County, Alabama, United States. It is located east of Auburn and south of Opelika. History Beauregard was settled in the late 19th century and was named for Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard. There are also some unidentified ruins along Road 166 that sit behind the limestone quarry. On March 3, 2019, Beauregard was hit by a long-tracked EF4 tornado. Many homes and businesses were severely damaged or destroyed, and 23 people were killed.
