Colorado's 1st Senate District
Colorado's 1st Senate district is one of 35 districts in the Colorado Senate. It has been represented by Republican Byron Pelton since 2023. Prior to redistricting the district was represented by Republicans Jerry Sonnenberg and Greg Brophy. Geography District 1 covers much of the Eastern Plains in the state's northeastern corner, including all of Cheyenne, Elbert, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington, and Yuma Counties and parts of Weld County. Communities in the district include Julesburg, Holyoke, Sterling, Brush, Fort Morgan, Eaton, Kersey, Lochbuie, Hudson, Keenesburg, Ault, Akron, Wray, Yuma, Burlington, Limon, Elizabeth, Ponderosa Park, and Cheyenne Wells. Colorado is a state in the Western United States. It is one of the Mountain states, sharing the Four Corners region with Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. Washington County is a county located in the eastern side of the U.S. state of Colorado. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,817, making it the least populous "Washington County" in the United States. The county seat is Akron. The county was named in honor of the United States President George Washington. History Colorado State Legislature made Washington County out of larger Weld County in 1887. In 1889, Washington County's eastern half formed Yuma County. In 1903, Arapahoe County ceded its eastern portion to Washington County to create its present form. Ault is a statutory town located in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The town population was 1,887 at the 2020 United States census, a +24.23% increase since the 2010 United States Census. Ault is a part of the Greeley, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Front Range Urban Corridor. History First called High Land, the town's name was changed to Burgdorff Siding, sometimes called Bergdorf Switch (after a railroad worker, who was deceased in an accident). Kersey, Colorado
The Town of Kersey is a Statutory Town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,495 at the 2020 United States census. History Elbridge Gerry established a trading post called Fort Gerry on the South Platte River near the present-day town of Kersey, Colorado in the 1830s. He had two Native American wives who helped him run the post. In 1840, Gerry abandoned the site and built a post on the south bank of the river. Gerry is said to be the first white man to settle in what is now Weld County. A post office called Kersey has been in operation since 1894.
