Miles Gerald Keon
Miles Gerald Keon (20 February 1821 – 3 June 1875) was an Irish Roman Catholic journalist, novelist, colonial secretary and lecturer. Biography He was born on 20 February 1821, last descendant of the Keons, of Keonbrooke, County Leitrim, Ireland; died at Bermuda on 3 June 1875. He was the only son of Myles Gerald Keon, barrister, and on his mother's side was descended from the Fallons of Runnymede, County Roscommon. Both parents dying in his infancy, Keon was left to the care of his maternal grandmother, and later to that of his uncle, Francis Philip, Count Magawly. He studied at the Jesuit college at Stonyhurst, where he wrote the prize poem on Queen Victoria's accession (Stonyhurst Magazine, no. 32). An adventurous pedestrian tour across the European continent followed graduation, terminating in a brief service in the French army in Algeria. Charles Cavendish Boyle
Sir Charles Cavendish Boyle (29 May 1849 – 17 September 1916) was a British civil servant, magistrate, and colonial administrator who served as Colonial Governor of Newfoundland, Mauritius and British Guiana. He wrote the lyrics for the anthem of the Dominion and later Province of Newfoundland, "Ode to Newfoundland". Early life and education Known as Cavendish Boyle, he was born in Barbados into an ancient British family, the son of Capt. Cavendish Spencer Boyle and Rose Susan Alexander, daughter of Lt-Col. C. C. Alexander. He was the grandson of Sir Courtenay Boyle and the great-grandson of the Seventh Earl of Cork and Earl of Orrery. His elder brother, Sir Courtenay Edmund Boyle, was also a civil servant who served as Permanent Secretary to the Board of Trade. Boyle was educated in London at Charterhouse, and later studied colonial administration and law. Eyre Hutson (colonial Administrator)
Sir Eyre Hutson (25 August 1864 – 14 September 1936) was an English colonial administrator who became Governor of British Honduras and later Governor of Fiji. Hutson was born on 25 August 1864 and in 1885 entered the colonial service. After serving in Barbados, Mauritius, British Guiana and Jamaica he was appointed colonial secretary in Bermuda in July 1901. In 1908 he transferred to Fiji as colonial secretary and between 1915 and 1916 and again in 1919 he was Acting Governor of Fiji and Acting High Commissioner for the Western Pacific. Sir Eubule John Waddington, (9 April 1890 – 18 January 1957) was an English colonial administrator. He served as Governor of Barbados from 1938 to 1941, and Governor of Northern Rhodesia from to 1941 to 1947. Sir Alexander William George Herder Grantham, GCMG (; 15 March 1899 – 4 October 1978) was a British colonial administrator who governed Hong Kong and Fiji. Early life, colonial administration career Grantham was born on 15 March 1899 and was educated at Wellington, the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, and Pembroke College, Cambridge. He was gazetted in the 18th Hussars in 1917 and joined the Colonial Administrative Service in Hong Kong in 1922. He was the Deputy Clerk of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for a short period in 1933. In 1934, he was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple and attended the Imperial Defence College later that year. Grantham became Colonial Secretary of Bermuda from 1935 to 1938, and of Jamaica from 1938 to 1941. William Addis (colonial Administrator)
Sir William Addis, KBE, CMG (5 September 1901 – 19 November 1978) was a British colonial administrator. He was Governor of Seychelles from 1953 to 1958. During his tenure as governor, he was responsible for Archbishop Makarios, who had been exiled to the colony from Cyprus. Life and career The third son of the Scottish banker Sir Charles Stewart Addis, William Addis was educated at Rugby School and Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he took the mechanical science tripos in 1923. He entered the Colonial Administrative Service in 1924, and subsequently served in Zanzibar and Northern Rhodesia, with a secondment to the Dominions Office during 1933. Oswald Raynor Arthur
Sir Oswald Raynor Arthur (16 December 1905 – 4 December 1973) was a British diplomat and colonial administrator. Early life and education Arthur was born in Poona, the son of Sigismund Raynor Arthur (in the Indian Civil Service, grandson of Sir George Arthur, 1st Baronet) and Constance Hobhouse (daughter of Sir Charles Parry Hobhouse, 3rd Baronet). He was educated at Charterhouse School and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. Career Arthur joined the Nigerian Political Service in 1928 as an administrative officer. He transferred to the British administration in Cyprus in 1937, becoming the island's Chief Commissioner in 1948.
