Coleta De Dados Colles
The Coleta de Dados Colles are a cluster of hills ("collis (planetary nomenclature), colles") on the smooth plains of Sputnik Planitia on Pluto. They actually represent blocks of water ice floating in the denser Solid nitrogen, nitrogen ice of the Planitia. The hills were informally named on July 28, 2015, by the research team of the ''New Horizons'' mission after the first Brazilian satellite, the Satélite de Coleta de Dados ("Satellite for Data Collecting" in Portuguese language, Portuguese). The ridge's name means "Data Collecting Colles" and has yet to be recognized by the International Astronomical Union, IAU. Collis (planetary Nomenclature)
Collis (plural: colles , from the Latin word for "hill") is a small hill or knob on a celestial body. The term is used in planetary nomenclature: it is a part of international proper names of such features. Like other generic terms, it is capitalized and stands after the proper name (for example, '' Bilbo Colles''; the only exception is '' Colles Nili'' on Mars). As of 2015, only groups of the hills have names, and the term is used only in plural. Sputnik Planitia , originally Sputnik Planum, is a high-albedo ice-covered basin on Pluto, about in size, named after Earth's first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1. It constitutes the western lobe of the heart-shaped Tombaugh Regio. Sputnik Planitia lies mostly in the northern hemisphere, but extends across the equator. Much of it has a surface of irregular polygons separated by troughs, interpreted as convection cells in the relatively soft nitrogen ice. The polygons average about across.
