Coedffranc
Coedffranc is a village in the county borough of Neath Port Talbot, Wales. Today it has merged into an enlarged Skewen, occupying the central regions of the village of Skewen. Coedffranc is also a local government community. The community includes the villages of Jersey Marine, Llandarcy and Coed Darcy. and had a population of 9,053 in 2011. Governance Coedffranc encompasses the electoral wards of Coedffranc Central, Coedffranc North and Coedffranc West for elections to Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council. Coedffranc Central is an electoral ward of Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales. Coedffranc Central is a part of the Coedffranc community and falls within the parliamentary constituency of Aberavon. Coedffranc Central is bounded by the wards of Coedffranc West to the southwest; Coedffranc North to the north; Dyffryn to the east; and Neath East and Briton Ferry West to the south east. Coedffranc West is an electoral ward of Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales. As of May 2022, it is represented by two councillors from the Welsh Liberal Democrats. Coedffranc West is bounded by the wards of Llansamlet and Bonymaen of Swansea to the west; Coedffranc Central and Coedffranc North to the north; and Briton Ferry West to the east. It is bounded to the south by Swansea Bay. Coedffranc West consists of some or all of the following areas: Coed Darcy, Crymlyn Bog, Crymlyn Burrows, Jersey Marine, Llandarcy and Skewen. Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council is the local authority for the county borough of Neath Port Talbot, one of the 22 principal areas of Wales. Coed Darcy
Coed Darcy is a new village currently being developed adjacent to Llandarcy in Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales. Historical background The village is being built on brownfield land vacated by a former oil refinery, the Llandarcy Oil Refinery, owned by BP. The oil refinery was the first crude oil refinery in the UK, and was constructed between 1918 and 1922. The refinery produced diesel, kerosene and other products. During the post-war period, the refinery underwent large scale development as demand for products increased to 340,000 tonnes per year. Due to economic changes, it was announced in 1997 that the site would close. Jersey Marine
Jersey Marine is a village in Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales, UK located about east of Swansea. It falls within the Coedffranc West ward. Jersey Marine is centered on a main road formed by Ashleigh Terrace, coming from a junction with the A483 road (Fabian Way), which curves to the east along New Road leading to Llandarcy. The A483, Fabian Way, is normally considered the gateway into Swansea City Centre, therefore it is mistakenly thought that the area is part of the city of Swansea despite the village being part of Neath Port Talbot. County Borough
County borough is a term introduced in 1889 in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, to refer to a borough or a city independent of county council control, similar to the unitary authorities created since the 1990s. An equivalent term used in Scotland was a county of city.
