Code Of Points (gymnastics)
The ''Code of Points'' is a rulebook that defines the scoring system for each level of competition in gymnastics. There is not a universal international ''Code of Points'', and every oversight organization — such as the International Gymnastics Federation, FIG (International Gymnastics Federation, Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique), NCAA Gymnastics, and most national gymnastics federations — designs and employs its own different ''Code of Points''. Thomas Salto
The Thomas salto is an extremely difficult and dangerous move performed during the floor exercise in artistic gymnastics. It is named after American gymnast Kurt Thomas. Technical details The Thomas salto consists of a 1½ salto backward in a tucked or piked position with 1½ twists or a 1½ salto backward in a layout (straight) position with 1½ twists, landing in a forward roll on the floor. The move and other skills ending with a roll on the floor are effectively banned. Banned Gymnastics Skills
Banned gymnastic skills are gymnastics moves which gymnasts are prohibited to perform, mostly due to safety concerns for the performing athletes. Yurchenko (vault)
Yurchenko vaults, also known as round-off entry vaults, are a family of vaults performed in artistic gymnastics in which the gymnast does a round-off onto the springboard and a back handspring onto the horse or vaulting table. The gymnast then performs a salto, which may range in difficulty from a simple single tuck to a triple twist layout. Different variations in the difficulty of the salto lead to higher D-scores. This family of vaults is the most common type of vault in gymnastics and is named after Natalia Yurchenko, who first performed it in 1982. The vault is an artistic gymnastics maneuver typically performed on a pommel horse or a vaulting table. Both male and female gymnasts perform the vault. The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is VT. The apparatus German Friedrich Ludwig Jahn popularized the vault's early forms. Handspring Double Salto Forward Tucked
The handspring double salto forward tucked, known as a Produnova in women's artistic gymnastics and a Roche in men's artistic gymnastics, is a vault consisting of a front handspring onto the vaulting horse and two front somersaults in a tucked position off it. Men's Artistic Gymnastics The first person to complete the vault was Cuban gymnast Jorge Roche in 1980. 23 Roche vaults were performed during the 2000 Summer Olympics. By 2010, male gymnasts had developed more difficult variations by performing it piked or with twists. There are currently five elements in the women's artistic gymnastics (WAG) Code of Points named after American gymnast Simone Biles: two on vault, one on balance beam, and two on floor exercise. Floor Exercise
In gymnastics, the floor is a specially prepared exercise surface, considered an apparatus. The floor exercise (English abbreviation FX) is the event performed on the floor, in both women's and men's artistic gymnastics (WAG and MAG). The same floor is used for WAG FX and MAG FX, but rules and scoring differ; most obviously, a WAG FX routine is synchronised to a piece of recorded dance music, whereas MAG FX has no musical accompaniment. A spring floor is used in all gymnastics to provide more bounce and help prevent potential injuries to gymnasts' lower extremity joints due to the nature of the apparatus, which includes the repeated pounding required to train it. Cheerleading also uses spring floors for practice. The sprung floor used for indoor athletics is designed to reduce bounce. The balance beam is a rectangular artistic gymnastics apparatus and an event performed using the apparatus. The apparatus and the event are sometimes simply called "beam".
