Club Throw
The club throw is an Track and field athletics, athletic throwing event where the objective is to throw a wooden club. The event is one of the four throwing events, along with discus, javelin and shot put of the Summer Paralympics. It is the Paralympic equivalent of the hammer throw. The club throw was introduced for both men and women at the first 1960 Summer Paralympic Games. It was dropped from the women's programme from the 1992 Summer Paralympics, 1992 Paralympics in Barcelona but was reinstated for 2012 Summer Paralympics, London 2012. Sport rules Like other throwing events, the competition is decided by who can throw the club the farthest, though when the event is contested by athletes of Disability sport classification, different disability classifications, such as the Paralympics, the result is decided by a points score using the Raza Points System which considers athletes' relative levels of disability. Track and field (or athletics in British English) is a sport that includes Competition#Sports, athletic contests based on running, jumping, and throwing skills. The name used in North America is derived from where the sport takes place, a running track and a grass field for the throwing and some of the jumping events. Track and field is categorized under the umbrella sport of athletics, which also includes road running, cross country running and racewalking. Though the sense of "athletics" as a broader sport is not used in American English, outside of the United States the term ''athletics'' can either be used to mean just its track and field component or the entirety of the sport (adding road racing and cross country) based on context. World Para Athletics
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC; ) is an international non-profit organisation and the global governing body for the Paralympic Movement. The IPC organizes the Paralympic Games and functions as the international federation for nine sports. Founded on 22 September 1989 in Düsseldorf, then part of West Germany, its mission is to "enable Paralympic athletes to achieve sporting excellence and inspire and excite the world". Furthermore, the IPC aims to promote the Paralympic values and to create sport opportunities for all persons with a disability, from beginner to elite level. Keith Gardner (British Athlete)
Keith Alvin Saint Hope Gardner (6 September 192925 May 2012) was a Jamaican athlete who competed in the 110 metre hurdles, 100 metres, 200 metres, and 400 metres, who competed at the 1960 Summer Olympics. Biography In 1954, Gardner won a gold medal for Jamaica at the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver, Canada over the 120 yard hurdles. Gardner won the British AAA Championships title in the 120 yards hurdles event at the 1958 AAA Championships. Shortly afterwards he represented the Jamaican team at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff, Wales, where he four medals, including two golds. The 1988 Summer Paralympics () were the first Paralympics in 24 years to take place in the same city as the 1988 Summer Olympics, Olympic Games. They took place in Seoul, South Korea. This was the first time the term "Paralympic" was used officially. Bart Dodson is an American paralympic athlete. He is from the United States competing mainly in category T51 wheelchair racing events. Biography Dodson has been part of five summer paralympics, winning twenty medals thirteen of them gold. His first games were in 1984 where despite competing in the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m, winning a silver in the 200m it was unusually in the field events where he won gold medals in the club throw and pentathlon in what would prove the only time he competed in the field at the paralympics.
