Clianthus Maximus
''Clianthus maximus'', commonly known as kaka beak ( in Māori), is a woody legume shrub native to New Zealand's North Island. It is one of two species of ''Clianthus'' (kaka beak) and both have striking clusters of red flowers which resemble the beak of the kaka, a New Zealand parrot. The species is endangered in the wild, with only 153 trees found in a 2005 survey (down from over 1000 in 1996), in the East Coast and northern Hawkes Bay regions.Wild kaka beak close to extinction

The New Zealand Plant Conservation Network (NZPCN) is a non-governmental organisation devoted to the protection and restoration of New Zealand's indigenous plant life, including vascular plants, mosses, liverworts, hornworts and lichens. Galegeae
Galegeae is a tribe in the flowering plant family Fabaceae, subfamily Faboideae. The tribe is found mostly in the northern hemisphere, but can also be found in Australia, Africa, and South America. Recent molecular phylogenetic work has determined that tribe Galegeae is paraphyletic, and that its members are scattered throughout the IR-lacking clade. Thomas Kirk (botanist)
Thomas Kirk (18 January 1828 – 8 March 1898) was an English-born botanist, teacher, public servant, writer and churchman who moved to New Zealand with his wife and four children in late 1862. The New Zealand government commissioned him in 1884 to compile a report on the indigenous forests of the country and appointed him as chief conservator of forests the following year. He published 130 papers in botany and plants including ''The Durability of New Zealand Timbers'', ''The Forest Flora of New Zealand'' and ''Students' Flora of New Zealand''. Early life and career Thomas was the son of a Coventry nurseryman, George Kirk, and Sarah West, a florist. ''Clianthus puniceus'', common name kaka beak (''Kōwhai Ngutu-kākā'' in Māori), is a species of flowering plant in the genus ''Clianthus'' of the legume family Fabaceae, native to New Zealand's North Island. Hawkes Bay
Hawke's Bay () is a region on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island. The region is named for Hawke Bay, which was named in honour of Edward Hawke. William Colenso
William Colenso (17 November 1811 – 10 February 1899) FRS was a Cornish Christian missionary to New Zealand, and also a printer, botanist, explorer and politician. He attended the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi and later wrote an account of the events at Waitangi. Life Born in Penzance, Cornwall, he was the cousin of John William Colenso, bishop of Natal. His surname is locative and it originates from the place name Colenso in the parish of St Hilary, near Penzance in west Cornwall. He trained as a printer's apprentice then travelled to New Zealand in 1834 to work for the Church Missionary Society as a printer/missionary.
