Cleveland And Richmond (European Parliament Constituency)
Prior to its uniform adoption of proportional representation in 1999, the United Kingdom used first-past-the-post for the European elections in England, Scotland and Wales. The European Parliament constituencies used under that system were smaller than the later regional constituencies and only had one Member of the European Parliament each. The constituency of Cleveland and Richmond was one of them. European Parliament
The European Parliament (EP) is one of the legislative bodies of the European Union and one of its seven institutions. Together with the Council of the European Union (known as the Council and informally as the Council of Ministers), it adopts European legislation, following a proposal by the European Commission. The Parliament is composed of 705 members (MEPs). It represents the second-largest democratic electorate in the world (after the Parliament of India), with an electorate of 375 million eligible voters in 2009. Redcar is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Jacob Young, a Conservative. Sir Robert Goodwill (born 31 December 1956) is a British Conservative Party politician and farmer serving as Member of Parliament (MP) for Scarborough and Whitby since 2005. David Bowe (politician)
David Robert Bowe (born 19 July 1955) was a Member of the European Parliament for Labour from 1989 to 2004. Bowe was educated at Sunderland Polytechnic, Teesside Polytechnic, and the University of Bath. He worked as a science teacher, and became active in the Labour Party, serving on Middlesbrough District Council, and on the executive of the party's northern region.
