Claudia De La Cruz
Claudia De la Cruz (born ) is an American far-left community organizer and activist. She is the Party for Socialism and Liberation nominee for President of the United States in the 2024 United States presidential election, 2024 election. Early life and education De la Cruz was born in the South Bronx to immigrants from the Dominican Republic. She attended Theodore Roosevelt High School (New York City), Theodore Roosevelt High School, graduating in 1997. A visit to Cuba at the age of 17 inspired her anti-imperialism, opposition to imperialism. In 2001, De la Cruz earned a bachelor's degree in forensic psychology from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Vijay Prashad is an Indian Marxist historian and commentator. He is an executive-director of Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research, the Chief Editor of LeftWord Books, and a senior non-resident fellow at Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China. He was the George and Martha Kellner Chair in South Asian History and a professor of international studies at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, United States, from 1996 to 2017. Mirabal Sisters
The Mirabal sisters ( es, hermanas Mirabal ) were four sisters from the Dominican Republic, three of whom (Patria, Minerva and María Teresa) opposed the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo () and were involved in clandestine activities against his regime. The three sisters were assassinated on 25 November 1960. The last sister, Adela "Dedé", who was not involved in political activities at the time, died of natural causes on 1 February 2014. The assassinations turned the Mirabal sisters into "symbols of both popular and feminist resistance".
