British Rail Class 20
The British Rail Class 20, otherwise known as an English Electric Type 1, is a class of Diesel-electric transmission, diesel-electric locomotive. In total, 228 locomotives in the class were built by English Electric between 1957 and 1968, the large number being in part because of the failure of other early designs in the same power range to provide reliable locomotives. The locomotives were originally numbered D8000–D8199 and D8300–D8327. They are known by railway enthusiasts as "Choppers". Overview Designed around relatively basic technology, the 73-tonne locomotives produce and can operate at up to . Designed to work light mixed Freight train, freight traffic, they have no train heating facilities. Locomotives up to D8127 were fitted with disc indicators in the style of the steam era; when Train reporting number, headcodes were introduced in 1960 the locomotive's design was changed to incorporate headcode boxes. Although older locomotives were not retro-fitted with he ...

GER Class D81
The GER Class D81 was a class of twenty-five 0-6-0 steam locomotives designed by A. J. Hill for the Great Eastern Railway. The all passed to the London and North Eastern Railway at the 1923 grouping and received the classification J20. History These locomotives were fitted with cylinders and wheels, while the Belpaire firebox-fitted boiler was identical to that fitted to the Class S69 4-6-0s. They were the most powerful 0-6-0 tender locomotive in Britain until the arrival of Oliver Bulleid's Q1 class for the Southern Railway in 1942. All were still in service at the 1923 grouping, the LNER adding 7000 to the numbers of nearly all the ex-Great Eastern locomotives, including the Class D81 locomotives. Between 1943 and 1956 the class was rebuilt with round-top fireboxes, and reclassified as J20/1. At nationalisation in 1948, British Railways British Railways (BR), which from 1965 traded as British Rail, was a state-owned company that operated most rail transport in ...

New South Wales Z20 Class Locomotive
The New South Wales Z20 class is a class of steam locomotives operated by the New South Wales Government Railways of Australia. History There was a total of 33 members of this class of mixed traffic side tank locomotives. There were three differing types. Twelve were classified E(10) class under the pre-1924 recording. These locomotives were built by Beyer, Peacock & Company and delivered in 1891 for use on Newcastle coal traffic. They proved very successful in suburban goods and coal traffic, picnic trains to Toronto, but were unsuited to main line passenger traffic. When displaced by more powerful locomotives, many were used as shunters. Their final services were on short light branch lines, such as Kurrajong, Carlingford, Camden, Rogans Hill and Morpeth. A number were also to be found shunting the industrial sidings at Port Kembla. In 1902, there was a shortage of tank locomotives. Six members of the A(93) class 0-6-0 tender engines were converted to a new A/E cla ...

SNCB Class 20
Class 20 is a class of electric locomotives formerly operated by SNCB, the national railway of Belgium. Prior to the introduction of the Class 13, Class 20 was the most powerful NMBS/SNCB electric locomotive class in Belgium, a distinction it held for 30 years. They commonly worked on Brussels - Luxembourg services, later sharing passenger duties with the CFL Class 3000s. Unusually for SNCB they are Co-Co locomotives. Development The SNCB Class 20 was based on plans for a four system electric locomotive drawn up by SNCB in 1968. The four system requirement was later dropped and 15 of these locomotives, equipped to run only on 3000 volts DC, were ordered from BN in 1973. Production started in 1975 and an order for 10 more was placed with BN soon after the first one was delivered. Production ended in 1978. There were no prototypes built and given that this locomotive was on the cutting edge of technology in its day, that turned out to be a mistake. After a short time they s ...
