History In the 2006 parliamentary election in Montenegro, the party did not manage to win a seat in Montenegrin Parliament. The party and its leader were active in promoting Montenegro's independence prior to Montenegrin independence referendum, along with the DPS, SDP, DUA, LP and others. After Civic Party's failure to gain any seats in Parliament in the 2006 parliamentary election, its leader Krsto Pavićević resigned from the position of the party's president, along with two vice presidents, Petar Bokan and Slobodan Medenica. History Following the fall of communist regime, one of the first parties to emerge was Liberal Alliance (LSCG), a party which advocated liberalism, pacifism, civic concept of the state and supported restoration of Montenegrin independence. It was an active opponent of the ruling DPS-led regime since its formation, all until 2005, when it froze its political activity. Slavko Perović and Miro Vicković were the most prominent officials and held the leading positions in the party throughout its existence. In 2004, nationalist Liberal Party (LP) split from the LSCG, its membership including a number of former high-ranking LSCG officials who were previously ousted from the party due to corruption affair. Coalition For European Montenegro
The European Montenegro (, ; abbr. ECG) was the ruling political alliance in Montenegro headed by Milo Đukanović's Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS). Following the internal turmoil within the DPS during late 1996 and early 1997 when the party's most prominent members Đukanović and Momir Bulatović bitterly fought behind the scenes for the control of the party, Đukanović emerged as the clear winner of the year-long power struggle. Under his leadership, DPS began entering pre-election alliances with smaller parties under the coalition banner that had a different name ahead of each parliamentary election. Liberal Party of Montenegro (, LP) is a liberal and nationalist political party in Montenegro. Initially, the party advocated liberalism and the bringing down of Milo Đukanović's rule, saw it as authoritarian and undemocratic. It had continued the fight against what it saw as the DPS' authoritarianism that the Liberal Alliance of Montenegro pursued since its foundation in 1990. However, the party changed its discourse and became a junior coalition partner of DPS both on local and national level since 2006, when Đukanović's regime declared independence of Montenegro. Currently, LP president Andrija Popović is the party's sole representative in the parliament, where LP is a part of the ruling majority.
