The City of Maitland is a local government area in the lower Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia. The area is situated adjacent to the New England Highway and the Hunter railway line. The mayor of the City of Maitland is Cr. Philip Penfold, a Liberal party turned Independent politician. The deputy mayor of the City of Maitland is Cr. Bill Hackney, who once aspired to be a member of the Liberal party, but was elected to Council as part of Mayor Penfold's Independent party. The current General Manager is Mr Jeff Smith. Great Lakes Council (trading as Great Lakes Shire) was a local government area in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. The area is situated adjacent to the shores of Port Stephens, Myall Lakes and Wallis Lake and the Pacific Highway and the Lakes Way. On 12 May 2016 the council was dissolved and the area included in the Mid-Coast Council, along with the City of Greater Taree and Gloucester Shire. From 7 March 1906 to 25 September 1971 it was known as Stroud Shire. The Great Lakes area is home to the globally significant, Ramsar Convention listed Myall Lakes wetlands. MidCoast Council is a local government area located in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. The council was formed on 12 May 2016 through a merger of the Gloucester Shire, Great Lakes and City of Greater Taree Councils. Peter Blackmore (politician)
Peter Terrence Blackmore (born 11 February 1945) is an Australian politician and former Mayor of the City of Maitland. Born to George and Kathleen Blackmore, he attended Newcastle Technical High School and became a salesman, covering fields such as real estate and catering. From 1974 to 1990, he owned a service station. Blackmore has two daughters with his second wife, Lynette Ruth Steel. He also has two sons Rodney and Simon peter with his first wife. In 1986 he was elected Mayor of Maitland, a position he held until 1990, and was reelected to the position of Mayor in September 2008 before concluding his term. In 1991 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for the seat of Maitland as a member of the Liberal Party. He held the seat until his defeat by Labor member for Waratah John Price in 1999. The Hunter Line (HUN) is an intercity rail service running from Newcastle, with two branches to Dungog and Scone in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It operates on the Newcastle, Main North and North Coast lines.
