City Of Kalamunda
The City of Kalamunda is a local government area in the eastern metropolitan region of the Western Australian capital city of Perth about east of Perth's central business district. The area covers , much of which is state forest rising into the Darling Scarp to the east. As of 2021, the city had a population of 58,762. History The Darling Range Road District was gazetted on 30 April 1897. On 1 July 1961, it became the Shire of Kalamunda after the enactment of the ''Local Government Act 1960'', which reformed all remaining road districts into shires. The Shire of Kalamunda commenced community consultation on whether to become a city in 2015, and was renamed the City of Kalamunda on 1 July 2017. Kalamunda () is a town and eastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located in the Darling Scarp at the eastern limits of the Perth metropolitan area. History Indigenous Noongar people were the first inhabitants of the area. The first permanent European settlers were the family of Frederick and Elizabeth Stirk, who arrived in 1881 and established a property called ''Headingly Hill'' at what is now ''Stirk Park''; their house, Stirk Cottage, is now a museum. More settlers moved in during the 1890s, aided by the advent of the Kalamunda Zig Zag railway. At this time the Kalamunda area was known as ''Gooseberry Hill''. Gooseberry Hill, Western Australia
Gooseberry Hill is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Kalamunda. It is the site of Gooseberry Hill National Park. It is located at the highest point south of the departure of the Helena River from the Darling Scarp on to the Swan Coastal Plain. It is often associated with the railway formation of the Kalamunda Zig Zag and the northernmost high feature of Statham's Quarry, which lie on the north west of the locality within national park land. In 1861, Benjamin Robins purchased of land in the area. In 1878 surveyor Henry Samuel Ranford recorded the name of the eponymous hill as ''Gooseberry Hill''; that name, derived from the presence of cape gooseberries in the area, referred to the Kalamunda area generally in the late 19th century. Forrestfield is a suburb of the City of Kalamunda in Western Australia. It lies 15 kilometres to the south-east of Perth at the base of the Darling Scarp and the southern border of Perth Airport. Bickley, Western Australia
Bickley is a suburb located within the City of Kalamunda, in Perth, Western Australia. It is situated on the Darling Scarp and is known for the brook of the same name. Before 1949 it was a stopping place on the Upper Darling Range railway. It was originally known as "Heidelburg" or "Heidelberg", but during World War I, Western Australian Government Railways and Tramways renamed it "Bickley" after a local pioneer Wallace Bickley.
